[OTTD] Translink (Was Nuevo Renfe)
So I decided to start a map and stick to it. The map is 512x512, using the 2cc set.
---
1. Japan has exceeded critical mass. Land has run out. As a result, a small uninhabited island off the edge of the Philippines has been purchased, and the Government has encouraged citizens to move to New Japan, and its capital city of Tokano.
2. Tokano is a big city.
3. In fact, a very big city. In OpenTTD terms, it is home to over a third of a million people. In real life terms, over 10 million people would be living in that space.

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
4. There was little to no planning permission regarding the formation of Tokano. Only many years later when the city began to suffer from chronic traffic congestion was the need to build a metro system realised, and the first line, stretching from the north to the south of the city was built. Since it ran more or less in a straight line, it was named the Central Line. "Uebashi Times Square" station is shown, the busiest on the network. To the north lies "Hakata Sentral", and to the south is "Uebashi Utada Street".
5. Also an oversight was the need to link various smaller satelite towns with the capital city of Tokano. Near the south end of the Central Line, "Matsuoka Green Lanes" station was built and a rake of new double-decker electric commuter trains was tendered out. A blue electric "Line A" train is departing while a red diesel "Line C" train arrives.
6. Two stops south of "Matsuoka Green Lanes" station lies Himetani station, and the Himetani Junction where the Takano avoiding line for freight departs from the tracks of Line A. An oil train crawls through while a Line C diesel train joins the avoiding line.

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
7. The very long freight trains that run through the island (and there are many of them) originate mainly from the Kawasaki Sea Oil Facility, where oil is stored before transport across the land. In addition to the multitude of ships, one train leaves, another loads and a third one arrives. Trains are quadruple-headed, double-ended and in fixed formation to quicken turnaround times and avoid complex pointwork at freight stations.
8. To avoid travelling through Tokano, the avoiding line passes round the outskirts, originally on the edge of the city. Since laying down the rails, the city has continued to expand and thus now lies within the suburbs. Therefore it was decided to put the line to more efficient use by running a passenger service (Line C), seen in the picture stopping at "Shimaoka Rudge Highway" station.
9. Triangle Junction is located where the freight line rejoins the mainline north of Tokano. The Harasaki Train Maintenance Depot can also be seen.

10. Eventually our oil train arrives at the Konuma Oil Facility. Due to the presence of the Oil Refinery, a substantial population has grown up to support the industry. The Konuma station can be found in the right of the photograph, built in the modern style.
11. Line B and C terminate at "Harasaki District" station. The next train to depart from Platform 3 is the 15:45 Line B service to Konuma and Kawano, calling at Nagaki, Komori, Nagahashi and Tacamachi Junction where this train will divide. Coaches 1 to 6 will continue to Yamazaki, Yamamori and Konuma. Coaches 7 to 12 will continue to Furukami, Kinohara and Kawano Shoreside. Please ensure you travel in the correct part of this Line B service.
12. Two trains detach at "Tacamachi Junction" station. The train at platform 1 is about to divide, with announcements ensuring that onward passengers are seated in the correct portion. A box container train has just passed through, although the growing amount of freight is causing congestion and disruption detrimental to the timetabled passenger service.

13. The great city of Takano contains an allocated proportion of low density development, which understandably contains some of the most expensive property on the island. The cul-de-sacs and green spaces were intended to give residents a change from the high density Manhattan-like development of high-rise Tokano.
14. Manufactured products from the Konuma Oil Facility end up here, at the Tokano Freight Terminal. As a container train pulls in, a convoy of trucks transport containers away to various destinations in the city.
15. Lastly, a map of development so far. The blue lines show timetabled passenger services.
---------
There are great plans for the future of the transport system. The proposed Crosslink scheme where trains run through from one Tokano terminus to the other will definitely help to alleviate overcrowding on the sole metro line and provide higher frequencies on the chronically overcrowded Line B. A second metro line to cross the city from one of the Line C stations is currently in the works, while there are tentative proposals to run fast trains to Takamachi Junction and the industrial oil refining town of Konuma.
What I need is your suggestions as to how to develop the network, and where to lay new lines. The next terminus will be located in the west of the city in Furuhara, with a new line extending to 7 or 8 towns or so. Suggestions for a route would be most welcome. I'm using cargo dests, and timetable every passenger service with precision by a clock-face schedule to keep everything moving as it should.

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
Oh wow, how did you make that map at the end, with the diagrammage?! Looks pretty awesome this, although I still don't get how you folk all run such long trains. Excellent stuff.

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
And no Japan Set? Still looks very nice with the 2CC Set though.
Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
What's really amazing is how you were able to manage all those timetables.

Great Screenies, really nice.JamieLei wrote:...

Two questions: How does that work decoupling working? Have I missed something?
And, what software did you use to create this wonderfull map?

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
What grf did you use to get the new industry skins?
I can't find it anywhere. Sorry if its really well known, i'm a bit of a noob.

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
I was wondering how do you make such big cities, and how do you build inside it without facing local authorities ire ?
Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
If you mean the stations, they are Industrial Stations Renewal v 0.8.0jackbarclay wrote:What grf did you use to get the new industry skins?

You can make big cities by having one (or more) stations in the city with high rating or by turning up the city growth speed. And he didnt build the stations inside the cities, he built them when the cities were small. By time, the cities grew around his stations.Hypolite wrote:I was wondering how do you make such big cities, and how do you build inside it without facing local authorities ire ?

And by the way: Your screenshots rock, JamieLei!

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
Looking good!
I started a cargo dest map at around the same time (22dec) - I have now connected all but 2 of my towns!
As such, what benefits does timetabling bring in terms of efficiency?
I haven't bothered yet, but then I am still putting down the tracks (and so have 1000+ pass. at every station) - which I will hopefully be able to clear at some point (with lots and lots and lots of trains)
Don't know why I choose cargo dest with ttrs 3 - the passenger numbers are insane....

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
Yes, I know this, but city growth speed shouldn't affect other cities too (without transport running) ? And the layout of the road seems too well planned to be the sole fruit of city growth on their own.Bennythen00b wrote:You can make big cities by having one (or more) stations in the city with high rating or by turning up the city growth speed. Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
He may well have created it in scenario mode and hit the 'expand town' button a few million times.Hypolite wrote:Yes, I know this, but city growth speed shouldn't affect other cities too (without transport running) ? I suspect he may also play with town builds roads off, as this gives more control...

Yeah, I guess.
Thanks for the hints

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
Very nice story I think

Re: [OTTD] New Japan Transit Company
I feel rude to comment only the network diagram in the end, but is that a Photoshop job or is there some kind of software out there? Would be pleased to know

Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)
