Good work SMR 24.Will do some drawing as soon as my life settles down a bit (final exams + my 21st soon ).Having NSW set will make it easier to concentrate on a subject but there will definitely be QR narrowguage in the future.12 class is one that has to be added to list.Good to see the coding, gives me encouragement to draw! keep it up

Thank you Coalroad's Artist, but could not have it with out some of your tips and great help, goodluck with all you have got comming along, love your work

is the running cost of the Vulcan and C-32 meant to be this different? the Vulcan is 3000 and the C-32 14000... might be an ottd problem though.

I'm now looking at doing a few members of the SMR 10 class steam locomotive of the former South Maitland Railway system, just for a bit of fun, below is a photo of SMR 30, preserved operational with Richmond Vale Railway Museum.

Also, what sort of information do you have on the history of rolling stock (ie, freight wagons, passenger wagons). We've got the intro dates for the locomotives pinned down pretty well, but intro dates for the various wagons are a bit beyond me

Hello WhiteHand,
I didn't know if you wanted comments here or elsewhere so please let me know.
I finally have a little time to test some of the NSW stuff.
Here is my first report for 1921.
I am using the latest nightly r1214, nswrsw.grf v2 and the latest auslandw.grf in the Temperate climate.
Should I be using Tropic?
Please refer to the attached png.
The landscape stuff looks fantastic.
The coal box on the Vulcan gets clipped by the mail and passengers cars.
The spacing between the 4 wheelers is inconsistent ranging from just right to way too much.
I'll be testing the set progressively by looking at the train purchase window and reporting on issues as they appear so if I appear to be quiet for a while, that may be good news.
PS - Anything special that you would like me to look out for?

I'll put my hand up, that one is my fault. Thats actually Singaporekids 30-Class tank engine, that is "standing in" for my Vulcan Saddle Tank, which is pretty much a repaint of Pikka's awesome saddle tank (again, big thanks to Pikka, I couldn't draw a round boiler to save my life). Reminds me to get off my arse and actually finish the buggerwallyweb wrote:The coal box on the Vulcan gets clipped by the mail and passengers cars.

As to looking for other stuff, I don't know about Whitehand, but I'd be much obliged if you mentioned how the set plays, from a pricing scheme point of view? I'm slowly giving Whitehand a proper pricing guide for the set, trying to find a balance between difficulty and entertaining, so any comments you have are very much appreciated.

I'm not familiar with Australian economics but I'll see what turns up. I play my games with no competiton, usually from a scenario. I'll see what I can come up with.Raichase wrote:As to looking for other stuff, I don't know about Whitehand, but I'd be much obliged if you mentioned how the set plays, from a pricing scheme point of view? Any work being done re Australian place names for the towns?

Well, the realism bit doesn't matter as much as gameplay. No point in having the set being killer realisitically priced, if people can only get a single branch line going, which goes bust by 1950wallyweb wrote:I'm not familiar with Australian economics

Any and all feedback is welcomed, especially from someone like yourself, who always seems to be constructive without being critical, as well as being tolerant for the fact that people have lives, and can't fix everything immediatly.but I'll see what turns up. Very happy to see you testing the set, Wally

Well, Pikka posted a grf on his live-journal that took the Pineapple names, and made them into a standalone GRF, for which we are all very grateful. That is quite sufficiant, even though they are all QLD namesAny work being done re Australian place names for the towns?

I am also working on a "grab bag" of "random" maps to be released with the NSW Set, that try to typify a random NSW map, for those out there unfamiliar. Essentially, expect very rural towns, usually near a primary industry. Secondary and Teritiary industries may be in regional centres, and it WILL be ineffiant to link every town up with passenger trains, at least in early years. Only 1-2 towns per map will be able to grow larger than a normal TTD town too, as most NSW towns are quite small, with the exception of the regional centres.
I also have a nice grf Pikka made that lets his open-cut mine be built in temperate, instead of new shaft mines popping up. So, when starting a new game, all mines on the map will be shaft-coal mines, but any mines built DURING the game will be open cut ones. I'll have to ask him next time he's online what permissisons he gives for distriubtion (although, Pikka is so community friendly, that I'm pretty sure on the answer, provided due credit is given).
As to set progress right now, I wouldn't mind seeing some more freight wagons coded, along with passengers cars. Thats mostly my fault, I seem to remember a long time ago promising Whitehand a proper intro scheme for the freight cars, and only just delivering a basic one a couple of days ago.
So any comments about set balance, I can handle as well as Whitehand, becuase thats the bit I'm working on at the moment. Of course, Whitehand always has the freedom to change stuff as the coder, so I am very thankful he listens to me, rather than just buggering me off ('cause I imagine that would make coding the set a lot easier, not having me noisly badgering him constantly).
So Wally, any comments about gameplay/balance would be really appreciated, almost as much as bug reports. As for realism, steamers can be used for most anything (even 3801 has been filmed hauling freight in the last few years of service), and Whitehand has got a pretty good description happening under each loco as to what it can be used for. But really, mostly anything goes. I've seen 48's hauling passengers, 82's in Freightcorp livery taking a passenger train, etc etc. We don't have dedicated express passenger trains here, except for the XPT and Xplorer trains, and they are MU's anyway, so no big deal

Look, SHELL TANKERS PEOPLE!
If that isn't BLATENT product placement, then I don't know what is. I'm boycotting this set, simply because Whitehand and Coalroads have been taken under the wing of a large, multimillion dollar petrol conglomerate.
This has nothing to do with the fact that Mobil was paying me to try and get Mobil tankers into the set... Nothing at all
.
Fantastic looking stuff Whitehand, they certainly stand out.

It's a pretty damned playable set too, it's not one of those dodgy-bros backyard-shed style sets. You CAN play a full game with it, although work continues in getting successive generations of freight wagons besides the first.
It's quite high quality stuff, Whitehand just needs more eyes to find offset bugs and bits and bobs like that.
Plus, you can finally see what I've been making such a fuss about in my screenshot topic

Hmm, looks like you need a GRF file with Aussie town names too.

The pineapple names are actually all randomly generated from segments, like the default British names. But it does occasionally generate one that's a real place.Raichase wrote:even though they are all QLD names![]()

Town name grfs are not hard to make. The only requirement is it must be able to generate 80 unique names, so if you want to use a list of real place names you need to make sure you have enough.
