Hmmmm.... How far are you hauling them? For example, what's your average income per trip? How much do you make per load I mean.

EDIT: Also goods
Use faster trains (eg the 4-4-0) for passengers and goods. They'll pay better for fast delivery, and aren't as heavy as coal or grain.

Try the good old fashiond way, deliver in bulk
(I have a 2-8-0 hauling ten squars of steel and plastic £15,528per year)
dont use the 4-4-0 on goods!?! use the Standard Five

The best to do is when you have an insane coal mine delivering, say, 1080 tons of coal a month. Deliver it to a power station as far away as possible. Use a station about 10 squares and have two 2-8-0s pulling as many coal trucks as possible. You'll get double the running cost for both and a bit on top! It can usualy make the trip about three times a year. That's something like £100,000 profit.

It's harder with Pikka's industry stockpile thing, but it's still perfectly possible!

So they're only making two trips a year? Consider only using one train per coal mine? I dunno... that one's stumped me.

they make around 4-6 trips a year.. and I only have 1 train at each station.. But, 4*4=16k and 6*5=30k (that's the minimum and maximum profit of each train) and the running cost of my trains are 21k/year :S

There were problems with the brewery before. Try redownloading the industries (and, possibly, starting a new game): if there's still a problem, I guess there's a bug in the DOS version?

I must say I love this set! I like the Costar Junker (Fuel Cell) and when I made a passenger branch line with it from Bristol to Warminster, I made it named: "The Hooter Line" Because I liked the horn so much.
The reason why it was the hooter line was because of so many small tunnels on the line every 2 squares of track, so the horn went every second for 3 times! 4 on the return route to Bristol.

Darkmast49 wrote:VERY nice set it is indeed! But I have one question.. Does the running costs have to be that high? Cuz I have some problems about cash..
I'm suffering on the same issue, I even changed the difficulty level to min.costs .
I have eg a refinery and i'm transporting fuel oil to a city, plastics to a factory and goods from the factory to a city (always across more than 30 tiles). Each of these ones with 6 waggons per train is creating hardly any profits...that's quite tough! Only the passenger/mail train generates sufficient profits.
Is there any chance to change the settings ? :?:

Maybe you need more wagons on the train, or smaller locomotives? :)

I'm sure it would be possible for someone else to write a grf adjusting the running costs, but I'm pretty happy with them as they are. Well, actually, I think it's possible to make too much money in the later years... but I'm working on that.

As long as passenger traffic is profitable, it's fine with me

I am aware that Pikka's left this one for a while, but I was just wondering if - when buying the GEC Class 91 - it was possible to remove the mail capacity of the van you attach to the end to create the rear driving car?

I used the 125 HSTs but now don't want to upgrade to the class 91s because it would mean taking mail as well - and the mail stockpile in the stations would quickly overwhelm me.

So I was wondering if there was a way to change this.

Ask me to explain a little better if required - I haven't exactly explained perfectly - but I'm not quite sure how to word it.

Eheh, I just noticed that the HSTs are refittable to anything - they shouldn't be. Anyway, the answer is, just don't put the mail car on the back if you don't want it to carry mail.

At the moment, I'm slowly going through the set and redoing all the vehicles to have no gaps between them, like the NARS. It looks much nicer I think.

No :!:

Please don't I personally prefer it when you can see a little gap in between the different carriages.
