I like all your points Wally, when I get a chance I'll amend the schemes.

Tend, true, but it's possible to require that the industry built in or near a town.
Yea ... that's why I added "Although, MB's brewery puts that limitation to rest. "
DaleStan wrote:I'm not sure it's a good idea, though; we are still limited to 90 industries per map.
Agreed ... a definite consideration when determining playability. hmm ... I wonder ... how do houses and petrol stations and George's tourist spots avoid being included in the industry count? Could post offices be treated similarly?

As houses.
Yes, they could.

Things have been very quiet in this thread for a bit over a month. :(

Anything new and exciting to tease us with?

This might interest you ...

I am planning to have the 2 arctic cargo/industries paper/papermill/printworks and food/foodprocessingplant available in the temperate climate using all the existing graphics and without the need for a seperate .grf in the next release of the CanSet. The theoretical part has been worked out, it's just a matter of putting the code in.

Anything I should know about the 'North American Industry' scheme ?

Sorry Wally, I wish I had something, but 4th year uni + working part time means little time for drawing. So this set remains stunted with 1 industry complete, 1 industry half done (Dan's meat plant - needs construction phases added), and the promise of Oz to draw a steel mill.

I'll have loads of time in December as I have only 1 exam, and I hope to able to get the first release of the Canadian sStations set off to the coders during that time (unless someone wants to volunteer cutting them up for coding? :wink: ), plus work on this. And of course if I do find some spare time here and there, I'll be drawing.

Oztrans: the schemas are on the first page, on the first post. The one addition to be made is post offices/mail processing plants.

Digging this up from the depths...

OK, I'm working on some ideas for this set, and I need to figure out what cargoes the Canset will support. I've been talking with Pikka about industries for the North American Renewal Set as well, and below is what I've come up with for both Arctic and Temperate.

TEMPERATE:

Coal Mine =>Coal
Iron Ore Mine =>Iron Ore
Nickel Mine =>Nickel
Copper Mine =>Copper
Bauxite Mine =>Bauxite
Farm =>Grain/Wheat, Livestock
Forest =>Wood
Oil Rigs/Wells =>Oil
Fishery =>Fish
Gold Mine (Arctic Only) =>Gold

Steel Mill =>Accepts: Coal, Iron Ore, Nickel =>Produces: Steel
Smelter =>Accepts: Nickel, Bauxite =>Produces: Aluminum
Sawmill =>Accepts: Wood =>Produces: Lumber, Pulpwood/Woodchips
Food Proc. =>Accepts: Grain/Wheat, Livestock =>Produces: Food
Brewery =>Accepts: Grain/Wheat =>Produces: Food
Cannery =>Accepts: Fish =>Produces: Food
Oil Refinery =>Accepts: Oil =>Produces: Plastics, Goods
Bank =>Accepts: Gold (Arctic Only), Valuables =>Produces: Valuables

Auto Parts Plant =>Accepts: Steel, Aluminum, Plastics =>Produces: Auto Parts
Paper Mill =>Accepts: Pulpwood/Woodchips =>Produces: Paper
Factory =>Accepts: Lumber, Steel, Copper =>Produces: Goods

Auto Plant =>Accepts: Auto Parts =>Produces: Goods (Automobiles)
Printing Works =>Accepts: Paper =>Produces: Goods
=====================

We could always add other consuming industries such as a gas station, car dealership, etc., but that unneccessarily complicates things. Towns accept Passengers, Mail, Goods and Food

Any suggestions?

Here in de Mar'times we likes to have tourists. I hears dey works purty good out West and in Montreal an Trona too.

1. Hotels/Resorts as stand alone industries built anywhere (ski resort anyone?) check in (accept) and check out (produce) tourists. If its possible, they should produce a tourist only when one is received.
2. Travel Agents as stand alone industries built in towns only accept passengers and convert them to tourists and also accept tourists which could be converted back to passengers although that might be redundant.

MB's pasenger liner is already available as a cruise ship so allow it to be refitted from passengers to tourists.

That's wrong - Buildings in towns accept Passengers, Mail, Goods and Food would be more accurate.

Tourists are another possibility, and would be their own industry chain. Hotels could perhaps accept food and tourists?

Perhaps the Brewery, Cannery, and Food Processing Plants could produce waste products, or fertilizer, and somehow work it so farms could accept it as a temporary boost in production.

That is, without recreating everything just to satisfy one industry that normally just produces without accepting.

Well, I was thinking that, and proposed it for Potash mines (And possibly nitrates from farms), ship to a fertilizer plant and send fertilizer back to the farms. After all, Potash is a big thing her, but aside from fertilizer, it's really not used for much else AFAIK

I'm glad to see this is being rekindled. OzTrans has my cannery, and I've been meaning to draw a few CP/CN hotels. But CanStations are consuming much of my time, currently. Really, we need Oz to come back and tackle this.

I'm here, man. Finally, after three re-writes, my thesis proposal is out the door, and under review. I've been occasionally lurking on the forums, briefly, just to keep up with things. I've also been slowly pecking away at some graphics while I was writing. I mean, "All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy." Right? :wink:

I really want to get caught up on all of the latest and greatest grf's that have been done lately. Sanchimaru's port, the Canadian stations and trainset, etc. Hell, I haven't even tried out the Toronto station that Oracle coded over Xmas. Ah, to actually PLAY TTD again...imagine that!

Cheers!

Yes, it is in the ToDoBasket; I'll try to have it done by the time the next release of the CanSet (v0.3) comes out.

Welcome Back Oz!

A few more things I discovered. While Canada has a large aluminum industry, apparently we import all of our bauxite. That said, I can either add a bauxite mine and we can use it for the USSet as well, or we can develop another industry like a port that generates and receives different types of cargo, a-la RRT2.

Also, re: Tourists, I'd like to see a Ski Resort and Amusement Park as well, but I'd have the latter accept passengers as well. Both these would be limited to a couple per map.

If it was only possible to have a map of some Canadian wilderness with its own industries and train sets on one half while the other half perhaps had the Northeastern section of American with its own industries and train set...
