OK, as promised, a couple of shots also from the Hamburg and the Hafen area.
First we show the Hafen area in around 1938. Not too much happening yet.

Second pic:
The city of Hamburg nearby has grown steadily since the passenger services have been established to some other major cities. the two commuter lines might have added to that growth also...

Pic three:
And we are back in the harbour, this time, it ten years later, 1949 and the harbour is getting ever more busy. Thyssen, the Steel mill company has increased its production significantly, and heavy Ore trains hauled by powerfull BR45s are making sure that they don't run out of stock.
The steel is hauled by a little line towards the Car-Factory of Volkswagen AG, where early the legendary beetle is produced and shipped out to all over the world.

Ok, last batch for now.

Again an overview of the harbour area, this time in its current state, 1953

First Pic:
We see the western side of the harbour area, where the printing works of Antalis is printing the Hamburger Tagblatt. The Headquaters had been relocated to here, as I wanted to have a good overview of the action around here.

Second Pic:

Back into the heart of the Harbour again. The Deliveries to Thyssen GmbH has been electrified and some Crocodiles are bringing in ever more of the Iron Ore. The BR45s are still around however, as some of the lines are far from being electrified. Also the motorway has gotten well established already, and some competitors are using it to bring in Grain from some farms nearby.

Third and final pic:

the northern part of the the harbour area. Commuter, Fast track, Motorway and busy Freight line, all running in parallel. The Hamburg Hafen area really is a Traffic Hotspot, where everything is coming together.

Wow. There's been some really great shots recently.

But while y'all are posting interesting pictures, I haven't yet got over my boring "must ... create ... the ... ultimate ... station" phase, so here I'll inflict some shots of my latest favourite big station type. It's a "perpendicular 'inline', high-volume, mainline passenger ro-ro, with inline subway feeder service and two-way freight ro-ro delivery". OK? ;)

In a spurious attempt to make these interesting I've taken the shots over time as the station and rolling-stock (USSet) evolve.

red - mainline through-traffic
yellow - passenger train in/out paths
blue - subway
green - freight

Here goes ...

(Sorry for making each of these a separate post but no amount of tinkering with the attachment feature will make the pictures appear in the correct order.)

Why the swap back of lanes? Why not continue it as it was to avoid those extra turns?

Which swap-back? Do you mean the freight lines?

 NICE.

Would love to be able to use them in my game.
Hmmm, would mean hours of work to change all my crossovers and such though.

yes they'd come in very handy, but I'd rather have them a little neater, it seems now that it's no more than a tunnel entrance with a railroad track dumped right on it... :P
but if noone bothers with that, I'll shut up and would love use them rightaway

Ah.
Finally what everybody has been waiting for.

If tunnel entrances are cleaned up, this is one more rich feature of the patch - along with build along slopes, and high bridges.

How long before it snakes its way to an alpha?

Nice stuff Oskar, always good to see something new again...

Rai, what's happening? Why can't you be bothered atm? Come on, We all love your screenies, you should post some again.

Anyways, Here is another one from Hamburg Hafen, this time, its a traffic warning. One of the trains got hold up a little longer on the junction, with its tail still blocking the crossing.
Traffic is anyways expected to get worse, as a third company has been established, and they will specialize in distribution of goods and food to the neighbouring villages and parts of Hamburg, which didn't see much attention yet. But anyway, its 7am now, lets litsten to the news:

Bob the newsspeaker:
Good morning folks! Welcome to Hamburgs Elbefunk 103FM. It's seven o clock, and here are the main Headlines today.

In Iraq, the death toll of US soldiers has risen now today to more than 2000.
In Berlin, talks are continuing about a "big coalition". Both parties remain silent about the current state of the talks.
In Hamburg, the mayor has initiated a "round table" session about making our city more attractive to live in and to boost tourism.

These were the main headlines, lets go quick to the traffic news, Mike has the latest update:

Mike:
Yes, very good morning to you all. Indeed, traffic is quite busy already around the bigger Hamburg area. on several roads into the city, some delays may occur. Currently the worst is the Aalster road where traffic is backed up as far as Hamburg Kalkwest.

In the Harbour area, fog has been slowing down the traffic dramaticly, not only affecting road users but also the ships and railway operations in the area. There is an unusually big backup of lorries to and from the harbour. The current backlog is until the H-Suedstadt exit, as the traffic is blocked by a closed railway crossing near the Kraft Jacobs AG food plant. Any lorry drivers are requested to wait in parking spaces well before the harbour area. Police is working on getting the traffic moving again soon. Car drivers should not be affected by this as long as they do not want to enter the Harbour area.

This was the traffic update, wish you all a very save journey. Back to Bob...
