"Project Generic Stations" Thread
Moderator: Graphics Moderators
I'd like to seem them in the PGS set. I doubt they'd be released separately, as the whole point of the PGS set was to collect all the loose stations into one set.

Awesome station Born Acorn, just one thing tho, the underpasses you have put in cover the entire platforms, people wouldnt be able to get from the underpass onto the platform because they are too wide. i hope thats not too confusing

Argh. Sorry about that. I did it with everyones Underpasses to see what it would look like. I have been working on the entire station for weeks and I had a whole page filled with random sprites from everywhere for inspiration. I deleted the originals it looks like and kept yours on. Sorry, but I got confused (the underpass was the first things I did, and then the 2 tile high platforms didn't work. When I redesigned all the platforms about two weeks ago I msut have copied yours oninstead of my grey ones
) I was using them for review, but there is misunderstanding with myself, as my original underpasses were thinner.
Never mind anywho, I will remove offending pieces and I will have to redraw them now I wiped clean everything else not meant to go on.
(What do you mean by "Timetable"?)

The patch has 16 classes, and if a scrollbar for dropdowns is coded, 32. OpenTTD is working on newstations as well and will have e the grand total of 256 classes.Only eight classes?!?! Has anyone enquired about expanding it to more?

Quite nice indeed!
maybe the "timetables" M.Blunck talks about are the last 4 sprites, and the yellow pad that is attached to the side of the central building.
One advice, though: the building looks too plain currently: try adding more detail, more irregularities to it. Look at any building: rarely will you see a square wall with square windows and nothing else. Try running an image search for "industry" or "industrial" or some other word you think that might bring you the desired images.
Anything shall be fine: small crates piled, a pipe going up the roof, a window that is smaller and not aligned with the rest, etc.
But first try to look in real world. I always say that documentation is the first step to do a good graphic.
Actually the harder part is to find aerial views of buildings

Really really cool!
I haven't used PBS yet but now I guess I will have to.
... Just as soon as somebody gets these gems into a grf!

I'm back to work on P:GS now, making some changes some people will probably dislike, and about to get more strict on what graphics I code. Aiming to make the set neat and tidy.
Some of the steps involved will be as follows,
For starters, Im announcing Born Acorn as my head graphics artist. First off, he's always around to draw for the most part, produces consistantly good work, and is always willing to listen in on my suggestions (Demands more like it
). His graphics also fit my idea for P:GS perfectly.
I really, really want to stay away from the 'I'll code anything you throw at me' approach I used to take. I'm aiming for quality now, as newstations support is coming for OTTD, and there is a very large audience of OTTD players who want to use P:GS, also, I have to drasticly pick my game up with the upcoming release of Newstations 0.5 (I have no idea when though) and the last release of USStations (And industries) from Oracle.
As I said, there will be some changes that people dont like. Well, tough. I'll always accept suggestions, but I may start getting a lot harder on what graphics I do, and do not code.
Also, I am cleaning out the freight and suburban .grf's, and my next, immediate project is to code the Silverline stations. It is my decission that Jezulkims passenger stations do not look at all right in TTD. For inclusion they will need more work done on them. The goods sheds he made, are currently under consideration. They have some issues with isometric dimensions, which I do believe I have fixed, but they will need more tinkering with no-doubt.
Also, I will not code any stations that do not form a total class, or break from the graphical style that is pre-dominant in TTD. Sorry Astath, that rules out the last iteration of the Country stations you drew. My major complaint is that they are too bright, and there are too many hard edges where shading changes. Otherwise, the quality is excellent.
I know there has been little published progress on P:GS lately, and that may not change in the near future. I have my own life to manage. Which, in my mid to late teenage years, is steadilly becoming more complex.
Watch my Blog, as I will occasionally speak, somwhat candidly, about my thoughts on P:GS, and watch this thread aswell, as Born will hopefully fix up the last few stations he's handed me.
It is also my aim to update my website more thoroughly, but you all know how easilly I forget these things.
I'd like to appolagise for any offence I may have given artists whose work I have/am rejecting. But the overall quality of this set is my first priority. Also I wish to appolagise for not giving more criticism when it was needed, I was entirly too free and easy about this project.
