dmh_mac, I'd like to suggest you making more types of one building, for example, building number one, try to make it in '|_|' or 'L' style for more variability.

I agree with the others, number two is warmer, and definately TTD-ish.

Number 1 looks better IMO (less bright, more realistic).

number two but with the fountain from number 1. Otherwise the excess realism will bring us to something like industry giant or transport giant where, in my honenst opinion, the photo-realism kills the game since it becomes dull and boring to look at.

If ottd sticks with a chearfull setting it'll be more pleasent to look at cause it's more cheerfull. It's like a sunny summer day versus a gray dark winter day :)

PS: yet the fountains look better in pic number 1

i prefer number 2 also, however i think the grass on it is a bit to yellowy green. i would make it a bit more primary green (primary painters green, not primary computer green :P aka a bit more like the grass tiles on the original game)

dmh_mac: really nicely modelled. Still both of the pictures seemed to have something a bit wrong in colors, so I took the photoshop and made 2 adjustments... below, is the original version and my version.

I can provide recorded actions for adding same touch to all images. If needed, I can also check if same effect can be achieved in PSP. (it won't look exactly same but as close as possible.)

That looks better, but I would say it is a bit too dark now. :P

ok, I'll adjust it... the color range is now fully used and I used 0.73 as new mid grey point... I'll test with something like 0.85

hold on, another version coming soon. ;)

EDIT: the mid grey poins has to be bigger, not smaller ;)

Maybe rendering it again but a bit brighter would be a better idea. (not sure if it would be a difference, maybe a more experienced person with rendering can verify this)

just removing some of the fill light power, or setting AO to a lower amount would make things a bit darker.

/me wishes AO in blender had indipendant Add and Subtract values.

but yeah i definatly agree that the contrast needs to be a bit greater.

The blend file for the brick building is on page 5 so feel free to play with the light setup in that one...

Number one. I always didn't liked TT's cartoonish colours. I think there should be lower saturation, just like on first image.

new building?

Post by Red.xiii »

Hello all,

After seeing the fantastic work done by dmh_mac i thought i'd try and help with some of the building graphics too. You'll have to bear with me though as this is a complete learning experience for me (and i know my texturing skills suck).

Attached is a render of a building done in 3D Studio Max.

There are things that i know are missing on the building, e.g Chimneys, satalite dishs, cars in the car park, flowers, paths etc.

There are also the doors to the building which i don't know how/what to do with yet either....

Now i know it looks completely different in the current form from dmh_mac's renders but this is because it was rendered in 3DSMax and not Blender. I've tried to use blender, but i suck at it! Could someone who knows how to use it use the attached .dxf file and add some proper textures? (Hint hint dmh_mac ) :D
