Thomas is 0-6-0 not 2-6-2. Should you want such a thing start with the Jinty.d00mh4mm3r wrote:Hmm, paint it blue instead of green, add a face to the front, and you got your self thomas the tank engine![]()
Very nice, very nice indeed.
When it come out, im going to download it, and use it
[REL] Class 61XX Prairie Tank

I agree, looks more V3 than 6100.Atlantis wrote:Looking good.
Although if you're doing the 61xx, you'll probably want to narrow the boiler a bit, especially towards the front. You're still using the parallel boiler from the V3 pictures....
For a 6100 the "dome" on the top is too big; because of the tapered boiler Churchward's medium-large engines did not require a steam dome instead he placed the safety valves in that position covered by a small brass "chimney" and the top feeds if fitted (see picture below).
The livery is also wrong. I don't think these engines were ever had a lined green livery (if they were would it show at this scale?) although some ended up in lined black under BR. Logo on the side tanks would be "Great Western" (per top picture), "GWR" (lower picture) or "British Railways" (similar positioning to top picture).
Incidentally, I realise that this picture of a 5100 class not a 6100; visually almost identical the 6100 had a higher boiler pressure.
My apologies if I seem negative, I am in awe of your ability to do this, keep up the good work

the boiler is abit more narrower, just that from that picture you can't tell (thou I'll change the model abit more to make it easier to tell).Atlantis wrote:Looking good.

Plus I haven't been using the pictures to make the model, I've been using my own N Scale model of a 61xx, which has a livery just like the one I'm doing (thou the models is alittle exagerated) and its logo is the Late BR crest.
Heres the exact same model from Hattons I'm basing my 3D one on:
Mine is like this.
Plus the first image of the model is a dome, the second has a cylinder (I might need to make the perview image bigger).
Atm afew of the details are abit exagerated just so they could show in loco, plus in loco some of the real trains in that have got some exagerated features.
Just to let people know, I'm thinging of making a whole set of Steam Engines, here are afew of them I'm planning to do:
Class 6100 (doing now)
Class 4P-D
Class 2P
Class Battle of Britain
Class Merchant Navy
Class Princess Coronation
Class Q1
Class N2
and maybe one special Engine

Stephenson's Rocket (but finished much later after the others)

My apologies re the livery, all my reference books are in storage in the UK so I'm working from memory (and I never paid much attention to what happened after 1948)Atlantis wrote:Looking good.

Sounds great. It would be brillant if you could make those Southern Railway engines. When you say Princess Coronation, do you mean this?

yes I do, with the nice casing on the outside
(before they took it off)
anyway, I've been trying to make a test flat-ground (no sloping sprites) version of the train, but for some reason Loco can't even see it, I've zipped up the .dat file with the pictures as they seem to go weird with me.
please could someone check my .Xml file, I've prob missed something.

Could you please inform me when you finish this? I'd like to add it ASAP into LFI.
Looks like a nice competitor to the Kirby Paul ( I don't remember any of the correct names
) It just looks a bit like it

well I've kinda already made most of it on the 58 now, but most of it is working right, only have to sort out the 2 bogeys and the graphics.
Anyone know which thing I have to change to get rid of the bogeys, then I'ld only have to sort out the graphics and some minor info changes.
Next time I'll use a steam engine base lol.

btw I got a Lbs to Hp Calculation here, but its too confusing for me to work, anyone thats got better maths skills please take a look.blackfour wrote:According to my very rough working, a tractive effort of 27, 340 works out at 997hp. That doesn't sound quite right to me, but that's what it keeps coming to...i suspect my calculations are flawed.

it means:-
0.00060827738741761 << is the number part
the second^3 << is presumably seconds cubed i.e. second x second x second
meter^2 << is presumably meters square i.e. meter x meter
but god knows what they mean as the calculation
can u post what figures u used in the calculation to get the 997bhp
Nvm--- the answer for 27340 in bhp is...... 49.71bhp
just divide the lbs by 550 and there is ure answer in bhp

49 hp seems very little to a steam loco, except the early ones
Anyway for the Development of the 61XX, heres some Shots of it
Plus I'll have to resize the train alittle as its abit small, then hopefully I'll get round to making the animated version after getting the non-animated done first, and I'll only do 3 sprites per movement instead of 4.
Also just remembered, I'll have to do the slopes too

During a conversation with Mr Blackfour, he informed me his formula is;
Tractive effort / 550, times 50. I reckon that gives the loco in question 2485.454 HP. It is strongly believed this calculation is wrong as a power class 8 Duchess is reported as having 2,000HP
Knowing nothing about HP figures of giant kettles of wheels, i'll stick my neck out and say that surely a class 4 should have roughly half the power of a class 8, but then the 4MT is rated at 1,600.
From a technical background, i'd need to firstly refresh myself with the stats of the SR EPB featured in the game, then determine if its performance in game is a balanced reproduction of mainline performance {Loading compared to acceleration over distance]
Knowing that 57/63 SR EMU's had a total of 1,000 HP provided by 4 x 250HP DC series wound motors, and what a 600hp diesel engine {as found in the class 73} are capable of, it would be a tricky call
