[REL] Class 61XX Prairie Tank

Post by Jim-San »

The train is now Released, you can now download this off my sites Download system (registering is required but free), please put all comments Here.

I did have a picture of it, but I might of put that into the self-extracting zip file, which should go straight into your loco object file, if you got it in the same place as mine, else run winzip :P

I might submit this onto one of the archives of loco bits, but :P
Please Note I'm still working out any bugs on this, please post any on the forum link above.

Just a note, if there are downloading problems, please Post them on my forums, I've still got bugs on the download system.

Here is a peek of what I'm doing next.

Erm, hate to break this to you, but that's not a V3. That's a 61xx. Very different machine, i'm afraid.

I only added that due to this website.
http://www.winwaed.com/rail/LNER/locos/V/v1v3.shtml

Plus for the stats, I need most of them as I kinda failed looking for them, the site with the most info I could find is the one above.

oops kinda forgot to add this file, anyway the model is going ok, most of it done, only details to go.
Then I'll have to work on getting it the right size for the track and get the colours right.

The picture above is indeed a Great Western Railway 61xx "Large Prairie". Whereas that link leads only to pictires of various LNER 2-6-2s.

As a fan of the GWR I can only encourage to stick to the path of righteousness and produce the 61xx instead. You can find the basic data here: http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/locos/e6106.htm and another view here

If you need more I am happy to track them down in the hope of seeing a GWR engine running in Locomotion.

I'm ok with pictures, infact I'm using my own N scale model of the train to make the 3D version.

Bits I'll need for Loco is:
Power
Speed
Dates (start-end)

and any other random thing Loco might stick in front of me :P

If you can get me the tractive effort, i can figure out the horsepower from that. For speed, i'd say around 80mph. And the dates, well, the original priairies were introduced in 1908 (Or so i seem to think), however, i'm not sure if these were the 61xx's or not. I'd say, for safety, to launch them in around 1925, and have them last until 1965.

the tractive effort from the link just above, is 27,340 lbs, for speed, well since its similar to the Jinty engine I'll use that as a base, for the dates, I got the ones from that site (way above) so I'll use them, but maybe changed alittle.
Also heres a snapshot of whats been done atm.

It might be alittle short, but I'll fix that.

Found an exceleent source of data on GW engines http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/ for the home page and http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/m_in_262.htm for the details of the large prairies.

According to this the 6100 class was first introduced 1931 and finally withdrawn in 1965 when steam working finished on the Western Region, so presumably they could have gone on longer.

Earlier, less powerful versions had existed since a prototype in 1903 with volume production from 1905.

According to my very rough working, a tractive effort of 27, 340 works out at 997hp. That doesn't sound quite right to me, but that's what it keeps coming to...i suspect my calculations are flawed.

As I understand it Jim-san is working on the GWR 6100 not the LNER V3; he was using V3 stats because he could not find any for the 6100 - now resolved. He refers to a N-scale model, which is probably the Grafar model of the 6100; I doubt taht the V3 has ever been widely available in that scale.

That and I didn't know they were different at the start, anyway here is the more detailed image of my model.

For the .dat files I'll do what I did with the Airship, take apart another objects Xml file apart and rework it for my own thing :P

<edit>
I just remembered, I got a Hornby Model listing thing with pictures and its got afew steam engines on it, so I might go and make some more :P
(I got the Hornby thing with my bigger but less used OO Trainset :P)

Looking good. :)
Although if you're doing the 61xx, you'll probably want to narrow the boiler a bit, especially towards the front. You're still using the parallel boiler from the V3 pictures....
