I'm thinking of doing a large british country station, probably for 1920 - 1960, anyone have pics or something for me?

Be aware: if you don't use any documentation, it will be crap. You actually don't need to make an exact reproduction, but at least look for some pictures and adapt them to what you want to draw.

When looking at real pictures you always discover details to be drawn

Rye in East Sussex might be a good starting point

The thing is these are town stations, not country stations, a country station is often not more than a building, waiting room, and a signal box, typically with a road bridge on one end. :wink:

Just an idea, if anyone wants to attempt it, how about a water tower at each end of a station - I reckon it could look rather good. You'd need 2 layouts defined because people will run their trains on the right or the left depending on choice, track layout and country.

But a typical british one could go like this

Code: Select all

 XXXXXXXY
==============
==============
 YXXXXXXX

Y - Water Tower
X - Platform
= - Track
Nothing to see here

Bodmin Parkway is seriously in the middle of nowhere! :D
Its just surrounded by forest, and a road

Born Acorn, you could use that Water tower from your distilation plant in OpenTTD for an engine water tower. it might fit well with some country stations :roll:

Stations also should have sand storages, for diesels and other locomotives.(or you can have seperate locomotive sanding installation station graphic, as a waypoint graphic, or a water tower for steamers)

Alright then: Stonegate. This one properly is in the middle of the country on the Tonbridge - Hastings line.

Hell, Ill code them. But first somone needs to draw them, and get a patch dev to implement scrolling drop-down boxes.

Speaking of coding, tommorow will hopefully be spent doing some experimentation with P:GS, I want to try and clean it a bit, do a test .grf without the side type, and other things.

I tell you what though, I reckon you would make an excellent building artist, its certainly very well drawn, just needs some light shading on the buildings.

What other accessories do you have planned for that station? The basic set usually consists of:

Building (Of some description, ticket booth, whatever)
Overpass/Underpass (I wouldn't be too worried if you dont make one though, esp. since you are aiming for a smallish station.)
Shelters
Benches
Bare platforms

Although, your coaling/water tower does raise some other interesting ideas about where the whole 'accessories' thing can be taken. Im a geek first, and rail nerd seccond. So I'd appreciate suggestions about filling out the list of accessories for stations :) .
