Post by jvassie »

Hi!

I am experimenting with the scenario editor in OpenTTD and i cant make any cities bigger than about 8,000 pop. Does anyone know how i can step by step get a bigger city?

Cheers

Lay some extra roads, remove some small buildings in the center of the town, and expand it again... this works in TTD(Patch)... don't know if it works in OTTD too

It worked in TTO so why shouldn't it work in OpenTTD? :P

It should work IMO, but you never knows what those guys did with the code

Yep it does. Lay roads in a fashion similar to how I've done it here.

Also, you will find that once you run the game for a little while, the population will expand a lot as smaller buildings get replaced by the town council anyway. So if you make a 50,000 town in the editor, it will go to about 120,000 after 10 years of play - especially if you put some bus stops in the town.

Doing it in a later year also causes buildings that have higher populations to be built, which is again useful.

yeh thats good sionide! :D

i meant though that for one city to have more than 20,000 or whatever population! Not a sprawling lump of cities, thats pretty easy.

cheers

Grid system is not the best solution. I'm creating a city using different (much more efficient) system. It's slow, but the results will be fantastic. My current population is 82K - it's realy not the end.

edit: how can your method be much "more efficient" if it's slower?!?

edit 2: hmm something appears to have gone wrong... have a look at attached screenie

My current city population is 323K, and it's realy not the end.

Hey, lets make a test: Try to create a city using original TTD editor (no Open TTD or TTDpatch) I want to see, how large will be your city using your grid system :P I think it will not exceed 25K

Oh, I thought you were talking about in OpenTTD. In TTD I could never get very big towns.

Yes, we are talking about Open TTD. I only mentioned an idea of creating cities in original TTD to show, how grid system is inefficient (becouse original TTD cities are very size-limited) My original TTD largest city had a population of 35 000. Try to reach it :P

My current Open TTD city has a population of 502 000. I'll try to reach 1 milion :D
