Locomotion: upgrading airports?
Hi guys!
Do you know how to upgrade airports in the game?
I am stuck with a bunch of small ones and I don't find how to upgrade them
to medium or large airports.
How do you upgrade airports? Is is even possible?
I also thought about destroying the small airport and build a bigger one in the same place, but I don't know how to destroy it in the first place!
There is no "buldozer" button on the building wizard.
Help!

Thanks, it works!
Couple of follow up questions:
what's the deal with small, medium and large airports?
their size just increase for historical accuracy?
Is their any reason why I should upgrade in the game?
What's the difference between them?
I remember in the original TT, you couldn't make jetliners land on small airfield, they would crash all the time.
Does locomotion implement the same thing?
If not, I would rather stick with small ones, they are just easier to build in a crowded downtown area.
Also, wouldn't it be cool if I could display all my air routes on the map?
Like if each connection between airports would appear as a line on the map.

Upgrade to large airports when you can...They can house 4 planes at a time and the best part is a plane can be moving on the apron while another one lands. The medium airport also allows that but to a lesser extend....Trust me, use a large airport and get 2 planes going and you will see how much better it is.

You need larger airports because bigger planes need longer runways! It would be cool if you could plonk the terminal down and then the runway seperately (the idea that the terminal building is as long as the runway is insane) since that would let you slot it into tight spots better (you'd need a square area for the terminal, and a long straight bit for the runway and adjoinign taxiway - this would also mean you could add more runways later for really busy airports)

That's why I reserve space for my future expansion plans by laying track on the area I'll need. Although it is a bit tedious to remove it with the current setup; I don't know why Chris didn'a leave in the "Buy Land" option.
As for the capacities of the airports, I believe it goes something like this:

- Small Airport - two plane terminal, one taxi lane
- Medium Airport - three plane terminal, one taxi lane
- Large Airport - four plane terminal, two taxi lanes (also noticed two helipads (?), not sure if they are, haven't tried them out)

Airports would be cool if they had a rudimentary construction system like the railways... you have a minimum runway length for each plane, and then connect them to a general 'apron/terminal' block.

Alternately, the game could've allowed you to connect a new airport to an existing one, in the same way you can add extr tracks to an existing train station, to increase the capacity of an existing one.

Btw. that "real life" you mentioned, is it worth downloading?

its because the games in 3D now, and just because you've built a track on the ground doesnt stop anyone else building ontop.
Buying land would be too powerful and annoying/or buggy as you could just build ontop of it, and make it almost impossible to then use it for railroad if the area is a hilly one.

There is no ?

The engine was built for Loco, but RCT 1 & 2 came out before it (obviously). And yes, I *did* read the manual where Chris talks about the engine development. He says, and I quote,DarkMatter wrote:....Loco is based off the same engine as RCT 2.
So while the engine was intially created for Loco, CS got distracted on RCT 1 & 2 and used the engine intended for this game to power those. After finishing RCT 2, he started to work again on Loco. Notice the time he gives - two years. This means that he (most probably) modified the engine into its' current form. So the timeline probably looks something like this:Chris Sawyer wrote:"In fact, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 was created using large parts of the programming intended for this game. Once RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 was complete, the sequel got my full attention again, and after two more years of work, the game is at last completed."
First generation Loco engine --> RCT 1 --> second gen Loco engine --> RCT 2 --> third gen (release form) Loco engine

The really annoying thing is that, when you are clearing space for the larger airport, the city builds new roads etc in that area, so you demolish it, but then the city doesnt like you
so you have to move your airport to a less popular place

Yeah, or it refuses to let you clear the airport because on the other side of the map a plane is taking off headed for the one you're trying to replace! AARGH!
