There's certainly no harm in having alternative graphics to select. But steel construction of this nature was available at least by 1880. Eventually maybe you'll have trains from before then, but this isn't an immediate problem.

AFAIK steel was invented in mid 1860s and people started to use it right awaykrtaylor wrote:There's certainly no harm in having alternative graphics to select. Yeah, but I don't know that they had that sort of design quite that early.Bjarni wrote:AFAIK steel was invented in mid 1860s and people started to use it right awaykrtaylor wrote:There's certainly no harm in having alternative graphics to select. FYI, there's already a patch in works for newgrf files introducing custom waypoints graphics (ie. MB's newstatsw.grf signalboxes). It includes a cute GUI selector where you can choose whichever you want, and it will be as simple as adding another grf file to [newgrf] config section to add another waypoint graphics.

although we can use MB's graphics, the others don't want them in.pasky wrote:FYI, there's already a patch in works for newgrf files introducing custom waypoints graphics (ie. MB's signal boxes will be optional, along with all the other newgrf things, like new trains, new ships, etc. By default, eobet's design for checkpoints will be used.Born Acorn wrote:read the whole thread, the other devs don't want mbs signal boxes in.
You did notice that option "Checkpoints displayed" right underneath "Signs displayed", didn't you?Akalamanaia wrote:It would be nice to see a patch that makes it so that if ya turned station signs off, ya wouldnt see checkpoint signs either -_-

OpenTTD is supposed to be able to handle GRF files, and if so, then it can just as well handle MBs new signal boxes as anything else. Of course you wouldn't include MBs art as part of OpenTTD, but there's nothing to stop a user from using his GRF files with it, when OpenTTD is able to handle them. You could draw your own signal boxes so OpenTTD at least comes with a couple to use.

There won't be any signal boxes that come with OpenTTD. Eobet's checkpoint design is very nice and that'll be used.krtaylor wrote:You could draw your own signal boxes so OpenTTD at least comes with a couple to use.

That's fine, it can serve as a placeholder to show that there's functionality there. When OpenTTD can handle GRFs, then they'd just appear in the list.

OpenTTD can handle train-sets atm(some of them), but few graphics like slopes or electric railways it doesn't(sometimes even refuses to start if ya add slope graphics in list)krtaylor wrote:That's fine, it can serve as a placeholder to show that there's functionality there. Well, it'll get ironed out eventually I'm sure.
