[BUS] Do you know a "peanut shaped" bus?
How is it possible? Because it's made from a fiber-glass
compounded material.
Simply take a look.
This was designed and manufactured by Hankuk Fiber
Company and based on Scania's 11.5 meter sized non
step bus.

Re: [BUS] Do you know a "peanut shaped" bus?
Is there a purpose to the peanut shape? (Other than making it look unique...)
Re: [BUS] Do you know a "peanut shaped" bus?
The front bulge makes the bus more aerodynamic and thus more fuel efficient - having a rectangular shape doesn't do fuel consumption any favours.
You are starting to see HGV trailers adopt this shape. See http://www.donbur.co.uk/gb/products/aer ... iler.shtml for details.
I suspect that for the bus it is mostly for aesthetic purposes. You don't see the speeds to really appreciate the fuel reduction on an inner city bus.

I have seen several M&S lorries with those trailers, but I've yet to see any of the other companies' lorries with those trailers.

I assume it's some kind of Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle, or some other more exotic power source, and the curves are the aesthetic way of hiding it's otherwise large boxy protrusions.

Maybe it's the air-conditioning stuff. It looks less fancy in Vienna: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bus_W ... 3-8270.jpg
Re: [BUS] Do you know a "peanut shaped" bus?
That's not an airconditioning unit (well, the little box on the front is). The large thing is a CNG or LPG holding facility. Or a gas tank if you will.

Here'a Brisbane Natural Gas bus, without any smoothing.
