The more brick-coloured version looks slightly better to me, the details are still pronounced enough.

Why though the lumber pile also changed from cream-colour to red cherry-wood-colour is "interesting" ;-)

Eh.. I'm kinda on the fence with that one. On the one hand, it does look a bit more drab and factory-like, but I sort of like industries to "pop" a little. In terms of a clean, un-pixely look, though, I guess I would say the new one is better. The only thing that looks out of place compared to the original is the bold blue colors of the doors and chimney.

However, as a response to the idea that a furniture factory wouldn't want to stand out too much, I have just one word: Ikea :P

My aim is to have industries blend better with the default TTD graphics. Some already do quite well. Others less so.

Some of my thinking...

I'm not trying to recreate TTD industry style 100%. TTD industry buildings are quite impressionistic, and use a lot of repeating tiles and selective compression. They were designed to fit on a small map without taking up too much space, and they were drawn by a man who was almost certainly on a deadline.

I am trying to blend well with TTD landscape, and especially houses. The hosues are awesome, and I look at these for inspiration when I need it.

FIRS buildings are bigger than most default industry buildings. I do want them to have their own distinct style, but they have to fit in the landscape.

I keep reworking industries to fit better. TTD graphics are higher contrast than I originally thought, and the lighting direction is wrong on a lot of FIRS buildings due to a mistake in the TTDP wiki (fixed).

However the industries will never sit well in TTD world while they all use boring plain ground tiles, with no paths or ground textures, and also no fences. To do those in a sane way requires extended action 2 sprites patch to be finished and included in trunk :)

/me thinking out loud

It's the 2CC colors, IIRC.

Personally I prefer the bolder early one

Having said that the other isn't a bad drawing. perhaps use both randomly?

To my eyes it's like the difference between a photo of a factory (old drawing) and the real thing (new drawing). For some reason the new one is much more 3D. Obviously, I prefer the new one.

Your not going to add snow around the yard? Is there a bunch of ompalompas that shovel the snow and salt the ground every day?

Obviously FIRS employs only the most dedicated and energetic individuals to maintain all grounds and properties to the utmost impeccability.
