No waiting time at signals

Post by No Aloha »

My trains keep turning around instantly if they have to stop at a signal. I tried to change the waiting time with the TTDPatch Starter, but it has no effect.

===A===<>==|=Station=|==<>===B===

| = Signal

Its a Station with one Track and the trains are coming from the left and the right, unloading their stuff and then returning.
How can I change that, so they wait, until the train, which is currently at
the station, leaves. I don't want a station with two tracks.

AFAIK, trains will only turn around at signals when:
  • They waited a certain time
  • It's a one-way signal in the wrong direction
  • If another train comes at the signal from the other direction

Maybe this layout works...

There is a signal to the left and a signal to the right of the station. I thought, the train, which comes second would wait, until the other rtain leaves.
I have used the normal signals, which you place with that button. I havn't changed them into one of the new pre-signals, because i have no idea, how they work. It's a little to complicated for me. How do I make two way signals?

If you normally build a signal it's a 2 way signal. Once you click on it again (while you've selected the build-signal-button) it will turn into a 1 way signal. Click again and it will become a 1 way signal into the other direction. Click again and it will become a 2 way signal.

You can select pre-signals while holding the control key, if you installed the Patch. You will see sign below the signals when you've pre-signals.

EDIT: In short: normal signal = two way signal

Thanks for the info about the signals. I read it at the TTD Patch FAQ too, but I didn't undestand, which signal does what and when to choose it.

Your new layout, with both tracks connected to one side of the station works perfectly. But I'd like it better, if the tracks are connected to the left and right for design reasons. But I guess I am stuck with it. :roll:

Well, there is a way with pre-signals, but then you'll need two tracks at each end of the station.

Well, thats a little advanced for me at the moment. I need to figure out, how that whole signal stuff works anyway. But thanks for the great tip with the station.

(I can't believe how awesome this game is. I've ignored it for so long, because I've thought, it cant't be that good, with it's age, small size and all. Two weeks ago I had to install it, because I got sick of all the other games I have. Big mistake: Now I can't put it away anymore.)

With two-way signals, trains will turn round if another train approaches the signal from the other side. IOW, if you have a train waiting at a two-way signal, and another one comes toward that train, it will turn round.

I think owen rudge's site explains signals (and other stuff) good. You can find it here. There's a section on signals here.

I hope this helps.

@snoitkever

Thanks for the links. Maybe that will help.

@BobXP

Is there still this hotel in Torquay, where the "Fawlty Towers" took place?

@BobXP
It's a 12 episodes BBC TV series from the early 70's about a hotel in Torquay - very funny, with John Cleese.

No Aloha, I lived near Torquay not long ago, and yes, that hotel does indeed still exist.
