under-sea level / transfer areas / ferries carrying transpor

Post by weezersijm »

Some ideas

-you should be able to make land under sea level as long
as it is protected from the sea by dikes or hills (leveled land)
(as in the Netherlands)

-be able to build tunnels underthrough the water / sea / rivers

-transfer stations. where i.e ships drop their passenger and goods and trains and trucks take it away (harbour area) and vice versa, same could apply for any combination of transport (airport area etc)

-ferries that can carry buses and trucks

-ferries that can carry trains

-and now I am thinking of another one --> trains that can carry buses and trucks

(and the last one I already saw there is a topic )
-freeways where fast cars can overtake the slow ones.
Cars and trucks should be able to drive at least 100/120 km/h for
better competition with trains

Ships can unload or load at docks. Same for road vehicles.

I like that idea, however, you could just load/unload at docks, but it would be nice to watch,

It would be nice to build tunnels undersea.

Perhaps this can be done by raising every square on the map by one, and making the first level the water level. That way you could lower the water-level once, to make undersea tunnels. When a square on level 0 gets flooded, it is raised to level 1, to keep a flat and consitent water-level...

Hmmm, maybe this should become a new suggestion... :)

You'd probably end up hacking another one of the "Buy land buttons", so it builds dikes.

Maybe at the start of the game, but later on when trains can travel 200mph and more then it could be handy in some way.

I like those ideas!

I think the idea to raise the water level is superb! I'd really like to get some underwater tunnels.

The idea to have ferries that carry road vehicles and trains is useful. If there is a huge amount of empty land it would be nice to get some roadways built.

The feeways could also be really nice, with faster vechicles on one side and slower on the other.

I am happy with all the replies.
I wonder if anyone could carry out the 'underwaer'suggestions.
I would not know how to do it.

then what would happen if you build a railroad in an lower than sea place and a tunnel under water and another placer removes some land to allow the sea to enter?
wouldn't that be a major issue for multiplayer games?

Buy land around?

that would suck as the area might be rather large and it would limit the area to one company only. Besides if somebody gets the bright idea to place a town in the low area, they might get upset if somebody floods the area

In big maps space shouldnt be a problem, unless its in city. What about special buy land feature that just restricts digging/elevating the tile, but not building on it? "Security zone". Towns could have this "security zone" area, that prevents landshaping. Um... And then feature "buy rights for landshaping". I doubt this is good idea... But...

that still do not solve the issue of a town in the lowlands or if you forgot to make that zone... or whatever

I think the underwater tunnel is being worked on. I saw a screenshot once...

I like the idea of highways.

the truck on Train thing does not make sense in the game because the citizens do not drive around with their cars, and do not want to be transported anywhere. using it to transport your own trucks does not make sense either becaus eoyu could use a train in the first place.

you did see a screen shot it worked ish but it wasnt realy worth working on realy due to all the "hacks" i had todo to the code so i have stoped working on that and i will wait for the new map array to be completed :)

Higways should take up two-squares. Bigger trucks would also be nice.
I think the better solution would be single direction roads
I mean so i can build two roads and... well, you get it
plus, you won't need no new graphics for this

Bigger trucks. hm. i wonder what do you mean with 'bigger'
a.k.a. a sad dude

Buses > Train > Ship > City

Post by madkeyzb »

What about if a bus could go to a Train Station, go up to a ramp on the station, then it loads onto a flat train car. The train carries it to a dock where it lays there like the cargo boxes in the cargo/harbor grf. When a ship picks it up, it'll be lifted by a crain into the ship where it could be seen. When it reaches the docks by a city, if there is a unload ramp, it could just drive off the ship & continues on it way. :D Now i realize that the bus itself (when loaded on the train & ship) would more then likely have be a type of cargo like "Buses" and/or "Trucks". :( I also realize that bigger ships would have to be made, because you could only fit 2-4 buses on a 190 tonnes of grain ship. :( In addition, you'll have to have station with ramps, Docks with ramp, & crains to lift the buses from the train & onto the ship. :(

How about a "deep bore tunnel" drag & drop, which allows a tunnel to be built on flat land tile (and has an effective land height of -1)? This could then stretch over seas.

The cost thereof would be extremely high (channel tunnel by way of example cost £10bn according to wikipedia, budgeted for £5.5 bn)
buses are ace!
