Finally someone with the same problem... but then again, I have the same situation: no sollution. 
Do you have this problem with Original patched TTD? In a two player game (setting easy but without AI competitors) I can build about 5-8 trains and then it kicks other player out. No matter if it's IPX or TCP.

I doubt it has something to do with the passing of years, but more with if there is like multiple trains running and stuff; as if the connection can't keep up and 'desyncs'. This would mean that with our broadband connections and 2 players (we both had 33kb/s upload) isnt enough!

Multiplayer is NOT a supported feature at this point. DO NOT USE IT -- YOU WILL EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS IF YOU DO.
On a side note, OpenTTD network requirements are very low. It works fine on any connection, even 28.8 modems.
