My name was "marked as spam"

Hi there,

when I first tried to register with just my name "Boris", all I got was the error message that "one of the fields where marked as spam". Odd.

Using my full name was Username worked flawlessly.

Maybe the Username "Boris" was already taken? In that case the error message is a bit "misleading"

Nope, it was correct and I was only asked once to type in the desired letters.

It did not work until I changed my username.

With all due respect to any people called Boris (including yourself!) I wonder if it has anything to do with the high amount of spam registrations we see coming from Eastern Europe and Russia - I doubt it, but it's very weird otherwise...

We can change it for you anyway, I'm sure. Mr Rudge will be knocking about at some point.

There are no users with the name Boris on this forum. No idea why Boris with nothing else was rejected.

Boris is (no offense to anyone called boris) a common name used by automated spammers, why who knows. If Owen is using some automated external systems, such as automated no-spam checks, to check validity of usernames, its possible it has been marked as a spam name.

I did implement an additional anti-spam check a few months ago due to high levels of spamming. It helped reduce spam a lot, but unfortunately it does sometimes block genuine user registrations. If you send me a private message to confirm your desired new username, I can get your username changed for you. Sorry for the trouble.
