I am running OpenTTD 1.2.3. I have played Transport Tycoon since forever. I purchased the original disks way back when. I played DOS versions of the game. Then with the advent of new technology, new computers and operating systems my disks would not load and play. I was really thrilled when I discover OpenTDD. Now I am back in the business of building computer railroads.
Now to my question. I am a sandbox player. I love to create massive railroad and transportation schemes. At the moment I want to build a finance center that is serviced by trains, helicopters, plans and trucks. To do this I want to build some banks. BUT... I have tried everything to find out how a bank is built. I can build refineries, sawmills, factories etc etc etc. But, I can't seem to build a bank now matter how I try. I have tried building a bank in the country side and in cities and towns of all sorts, but nothing seems to work.
What is the secret to building a bank?

Re: Building Banks
You can only build a bank in (I believe) larger cities, and it needs to be placed over homes, OpenTTD isn't one for the feelings of homeowners.

This info, and lots more about all areas of OpenTTD at the wiki/manual, the bank page is here http://wiki.openttd.org/BankYou can only fund banks if population of the town is at least 1200. The cursor will indicate the upper right corner of the 2x1 squares that the bank will occupy. The complete footprint needs to be on top of house(s).
Re: Building Banks
To further develop what Jolteon said, a bank cannot be placed on top of bare ground. It *has* to delete a building of some sort, be it a fountain or a house or a skyscraper.
My Scenarios:
Archipiélago Hermoso (Latest Release: Version 3.2)
Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)

Thank You. Now I am wondering if it would be possible to build more then one bank in a town. Possibly with a cheat code or something. I have my advanced setting set to "allow multiple similar industries per town", but I can still only build one bank.

Re: Building Banks
Yes, although normal 'too close to other industry' rules apply. I have a big city with over 5 banks strewn around it.
Re: Building Banks
don't you have to allow "more than 1 industry of the same type per city" too ?
