Profit loss warning

Post by Howling »

is it possible to make some kind of prompt in TTD when a vehicle's profit reaches a certain low point? For example it's lower than € -100 for one month or longer?

I sometimes find trains lost in search of their depot by looking at their profit level. When I click on them they seem to be in some state of mental confusion as their destination fluctuates between a station they're at and the depot they have to go to. I believe that the above idea would be handy for this and other situations, such as the plain connections that just won't make you any money period. :)

Yes I know that, still it requires having to actively search through the list of vehicles on occasion. It would save me some time - especially if you have lots of vehicles - if you could set up a warning when something appeared to be wrong, wouldn't it?

Well there's the losttrains switch, that'll tell you if a train hasn't got to it's next destination in a specified time.

I can't use that profit number anyway. I think they tried but it doesn't account for cargo dropped off on the way to the destination. I think I've seen it work before, but I've also had many trains always in red. If I sold those trains my profit would plummet.

You mean trains that get bring goods to an overhoal station? If you have the switch "feederservice" on, that shouldn't be a problem.

Even the no-profit indicator is misleading if you have
a.) very long routes
b.) very slow trains (like, early in the game)
c.) a non-queuing primary industry station, and the trains have piled up in paralell. Hopefully soon the Patch will make it so the fullest vehicle fills first, but not yet.

I thought making the fullest fill first was impossible, because not the station, but the train loads.

I never saw it on the impossible list, and it's on the to-do list. Josef said it is possible, but somewhat awkward. He'll get to it when he has time, but recently there have been so many things going on he hasn't had the time to dedicate to a fairly intensive project like that. When things settle down we'll see. I wouldn't hold my breath though. But it would really make a difference to realism, you NEVER see loading-loops like we have to use, in the real world, except possibly at coal mines.

Yes it's on. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. Now these are long routes, it's very possible that the items picked up in one month aren't finally delivered until the next. Would this cause an issue?
