Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
Hi,
i tried installing the 32bpp graphics.
Install OpenTTD
=> Downloaded OpenTTD 1.1.0-RC
=> Installed to E:\Spiele\OpenTTD with opengfx
Install 32bpp graphics
http://wiki.openttd.org/Playing_with_32bpp_graphics
=> Downloaded: transmitter.tar and Power_Plant.tar
=> Moved to: C:\Users\...\Documents\OpenTTD\content_download\data
(If i download newGRF using the ingame system the files are placed in this directory and can by activated for e.g. generic tram set.)
=> Opened: C:\Users\...\Documents\OpenTTD\openttd.cfg
=> Edited "blitter = " to "blitter = 32bpp-simple" (without quotation marks)
Under OpenGRF there is nothing to activate and if i start the games nothing changes.
Thanks for your help,
Hendrik

Before i answer fully, do you want the extra-zoom functionality?

Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
If this is the better way or i get more hires graphics yes - but i don't really need an extra zoom level. So far i choos the normal 32bpp graphics.

Ok, i think you need to put the .tar s in E:/Spiele/OpenTTD/data/
Un-tar-ing them shouldn't be necessary

Better put them into C:\Users\<username>\Documents\OpenTTD\data
OpenTTD: manual | online content | translations | Wanted contributions and patches
#openttdcoop: blog | wiki | public server | DevZone | NewGRF web translator
DevZone - home of the free NewGRFs: OpenSFX | OpenMSX | OpenGFX | Swedish Rails | OpenGFX+ Trains|RV|Industries|Airports|Landscape | NML
Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
Hi,
i tried both dirs as tar and untar-ed! Nothing new...
Must i attach them manually to the cfg file?
Should i find them at the newGRF config?

Are you using OpenGFX?
OpenTTD: VAST - station tiles and objects | MICS - urban monorail graphical conversion | Universal Rail Type - easier train replacement
Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
Well - if i don't have original TTD available i must use openGFX or a'm i wrong?
But yes like i wrote above i use openGFX.

You won't need to add them to the newgrf config, as they are merely graphic replacements. Have you actually tried in game?

Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
I don't think the transmitter is coded already for opengfx (if you look in the tar file, if there are only trg* directories, and not ogfx* directories it is original graphics only).
For the powerplant check this one:http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/i ... ile&id=157

Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
OK - i checked the tar archives i tried and both have for e.g.:
Power_Plant.tar\sprites\trg1r\...
here are some numbered png files.
Both didn't have any ogfx* folder.
Now i downloaded the "2045-2054 power plant.tar" from GeekToo's Link.
Inside i found "2045-2054 power plant.tar\sprites\ogfx1_base\" and again some numbered png files.
Well but putting the tar file in my three directories does bring nothing in the newGRF config and nothing ingame.
Slowly but surely i think the 32bpp graphics don't like me.
Maybe the 1.1.0-RC2 version i'm using is wrong - for the extra zoom levels i need a special version is this necessary for the 32bpp graphics too?

Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
To get 32bpp replacement graphics to work with OpenGFX, rename "trg1r" in the tar to "ogfx1_base", or extract the tar, duplicate "trg1r" and rename it to "ogfx1_base". The former should get it working with OpenGFX; the latter with OpenGFX and original graphics.
It shouldn't be necessary to add any NewGRFs since the transmitter and powerplant graphics are replacements for the base set graphics. Edit: and nothing would show up in the NewGRF config either. The only way to know if 32bpp replacements work is if they appear on the map where they are expected to.
The powerplant and transmitter replacement sprites show up for me in OpenTTD 1.1.0-RC2 using OpenGFX and the replacement sprites in your first post located in OpenTTD/data/sprites/ogfx1_base (and also if repackaged into a tar with the structure someTarName.tar/sprites/ogfx1_base and placed in OpenTTD/data). Methinks the tar GeekToo linked to would work in extra zoom, although you could rename all *z2 to just the sprite numbers (i.e. remove the "_z2" part") and that would work in normal zoom.

Hi,
well thanks for your help. The tared version doesn't work but untared is working... - May be you should update the install guide.
Is there any way i can support the 32bpp project?

Re: Install 32bpp graphics - normal zoom
Likewise I have had untold difficulty in attempting to install 32bpp graphics on my system (Vista 32-bit).
I recently found a link to a 150+Mb file with a huge amount of PNG sprites in directories within the Data directory, ogfx folders and GRF files and thought this seemed a reasonable setup. This has the extra zoom capability as noted when running in ordinary 8bpp mode so I thought most of it was ready to go.
Reading the myriad and complex instructions about TAR and un-TAR-ed files and mass renaming has led me to conclude that errors in setup were entirely due to my misunderstanding of the file locations and how to set this up. Hence my looking for an all-in-one ready-to-go package...
Naturally this large package does not display in 32bpp despite the blitter line being in the OpenTTD.cfg file and as a flag on the shortcut (just to make sure!) so I have to suppose that the file package may not be entirely complete or that I have made another (inadvertent) mistake during setup.
If possible, I should very much appreciate a link to an archive that has COMPLETE 32bpp graphics and a directory structure already in place with ALL the relevant files so that all I have to do is unzip it and run the executable pretty much. It is extremely frustrating and I do not have the time to investigate multiple permutations that may or may not work - especially with a three-year-old wanting to see Thomas the Tank Engine (well, sort of!) working on my PC.
