Would it be possible to make the saved game manager show which newgrf files are associated with which saved games?

Hmmm, if I can find the data that says which graphics are associated with a saved game, yes. I think it'll be in Marcin's document. It'll only show the GRFID though... I could make a plug-in that finds the GRFIDs and matches them up with the graphics though, I suppose.

It's not explained there, but it's extra chunk ID 0002, made of a sequence of DWORD+BYTE, where the DWORD is the GRFID and the byte is one of 0=inactive, 1=active or 128 (0x80)=invalid. Later I might add other meanings for things like "manually disabled", "disabled by the grf file e.g. b/o climate" etc.
