Rail renting

Post by jvc26 »

I thought an interesting game-changer could be to be able to rent out your rail lines to another company. If such an agreement exists, they can hook into your lines and their trains can run on your lines, use your stations etc. You can set a percentage on the sales at your stations, or alternatively just charge a monthly fee. When the agreement is dispanded, all trains on your lines are sent back to their depot (you can't have depots on a competitors rails) and cannot enter the competitors rails until a new agreement is reached.

Thoughts?

Did you even search before asking? Forum search for "Infrastructure Sharing". I didn't even bother selecting "OpenTTD Development" as only forum, that will give even better results. Google search for infrastructure sharing on tt-forums.net.

In both cases the topic you're looking for is on the first page.

I'm not after the forum for it, i would like the actual patch that i can used within my game, unless it's not been made or something?

You still need to be spoon-fed and maybe a burping afterwards?

Go figure, the forum thread might actually have links to that patch... as will have the DevZone hosted by #openttdcoop

Seriously, I'm not Very good on forums, Nor very good with computers, I just figured that to try and get the best out of a game, a may had to search Related forums, As searches For the patch Seemed to be no help to me I figured it might be worth asking, Now it's good to get some form of help but I'm not keen on checking every link on 18 page long forum, To get any hope of finding what I'm after, I tend to give up, I know its a pain to you, But if you're not one to be very helpful, At least have the courtesy to ignore me, Because I'd rather be ignored Then Moaned at.

So I'm sorry if I've been a pain to you, Because I'm sure I have, But at least try not to be rude.

Hopefully I'll find what I'm after, So far I keep getting a page of binaries, Of something like that that makes no sense to me.

Thanks for whatever help you may have been.

You don't need to go through all 18 pages. The first post often gives pointers about where to find various things. In this case you have the link to the binaries on the third row of the first post: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=42254

What do you want if not a pre-compiled binary? No offence, but given your earlier questions, I would be surprised if you know how to use the patch file to patch the OpenTTD source code and then compile it. For you it would be much easier to use a pre-compiled binary.

If your problem is to know which of the files at http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/is2/IS2.1.1/ to download, then you have to ask that and let us know what operating system you are using. Hint: you want a zip file with your operating system in the end of the name.

Thats what i kept finding, And i would like to know if I Download all of those? Or which ones do I use?
Because I'm not one of trying to figure out what files i need, And it makes me feel stupid, So if you could Give me an idication what i do with that list?

And when i try to download one of these, It askes what program should i use to open it, And it makes little sense to me...

In order to tell you which file to use, as I worte before, you need to tell which operating system you are using. Are you using a PC with Windows? Mac? Linux?

If you are using Windows XP, Vista or 7 this will probably work: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/is2/IS2. ... -win32.zip

If your computer is new you might have a 64 bit system which can not run 32-bit programs, then you need this instead: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/is2/IS2. ... -win64.zip

If you are on a mac or on linux none of those links works. That is why I asked you which operating system you use.

I guess you are using Windows

Hit Win + Pause on the keyboard and try to find the information there (it is labeled System Type on Vista and 7)

In order to have a 64-bit OS run 32-bit programs you need support for that from the CPU. If the CPU do not have the backward compatibility then you can't run 32-bit programs.

Note that "might" in my original sentence refer to the fact that he might have a 64-bit system with this limitation. Not that all 64-bit systems have this limitation and he might be on a 64-bit system. (yes I know it's easy to read it the other way, I should have formulated me better)

Okay, Can some one tell me what i've done wrong, i've got all of the microsoft 32 files, As listed here;

openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.zip.sha256sum 30-Dec-2009 22:07 104
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.zip.sha1sum 30-Dec-2009 22:07 80
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.zip.md5sum 30-Dec-2009 22:07 72
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.zip 30-Dec-2009 22:07 3.8M
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.pdb.sha256sum 30-Dec-2009 22:07 104
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.pdb.sha1sum 30-Dec-2009 22:07 80
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.pdb.md5sum 30-Dec-2009 22:07 72
openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.pdb 30-Dec-2009 22:07 14M

But when I try to open all but this one...
[ openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.zip 30-Dec-2009 22:07 3.8M ]
They all ask for Windows needs a program to open this file, Which gives a dead end.

Wheras For [ openttd-is2-IS2.1.1-windows-win32.zip 30-Dec-2009 22:07 3.8M ] It allows me to Unpack the zip Folder, But when i put it in the open ttd area It asks to replace items which If i allow, it causes Openttd not to work at all.

Help please.

Oh ok, sorry. I thought that any (usual desktop) processor which supports the x64-architecture also supports x86. Never mind. :]
