what signals to use for station with passing line?
Hi
I got a proble with singleing a bit of reail track could any of you guys or girls come up with a way to do it
The middle line is a two way track for trains that dont stop there
There are two platforms for trains to stop at
my proble is that
If i use entry signals the trains that anit stoping get stuck waiting for the plate forms to be free
If i use path signals the trains that are stoping block up the line if theres no free platforms for them
here is a picture and a save for openttd 0.7.2

Re: what signals to use?
Hi Paltala
Thank you i just tested it but there is one bug if there is a train stop or borken down in the midel line it all stop
Say a slow train gos down the midel line should not the faster train go down the free path and over track the slower one
The train at the butom should just go along the platform becuse the path is free to were it wants to go but the A2C trains only use the midel line to run on what is very odd

Re: what signals to use?
Going through the platform counts as a penalty, since the train must stop when entering platform, then the train would rather just wait for the train in the middle lane to pass. I hope I explained that clearly, tell me if it sounds confusing.2007Alain2007 wrote:Hi Paltala

Even though a station is a penalty to the path finder, if one uses non-stop orders a train won't stop in a station even though it passes through it.petert wrote:Going through the platform counts as a penalty, since the train must stop when entering platform, then the train would rather just wait for the train in the middle lane to pass. Another solution thus would be to use non-stop orders for the trains and build a station with a dedicated track for each direction and one or two bi-directional tracks in the middle. (No, there are not two signals missing)

Re: what signals to use?
Good idea planetmaker! I didn't even think to use non-stop orders. Usually with my building style, I don't like using stations as the passing lanes, but it sounds good here.planetmaker wrote:

Dose this mean i got to tell the trains that there is a platform there but you can go non stop via it or some thing
Becuse all my trais are set to non stop but only got non stop odders to A2C or A2B2C2B

Yes, non-stop, or non-stop-via, would work perfectly.

Re: what signals to use for station with passing line?
so the way to do what i want is to go for 3 lane platform or using 2 platforms and 2 passing loops
But hay i think i can live with that tell some one changes a path finder or a new signal
But if theres more ideas about i could help me in a game

Re: what signals to use for station with passing line?
I understood most of that, and what you said was correct.
Re: what signals to use for station with passing line?
if you want a passing line in the middle, then just remove the platform there. Then use the same signal arrangement. This will make the track the same as in the original post.

you do realise that is effectively mu design but wont work due to the doubling up of the 2way pbsseandasheep wrote:if you want a passing line in the middle, then just remove the platform there. Then use the same signal arrangement. This will make the track the same as in the original post.

Re: what signals to use for station with passing line?
I ad only one normal signal in the middle, and service depot in each way.
If I may?

If there are 4 trains two in the platforms and two going each way it block up with the two trains trying to go down the center line

Please look where I did set train service depots.
I don't see much problems, if train goes sometimes mad direction, and get to where we wont like.
But at time from depot train can find direction easily, and hide it self for others who want to pass.
