Load Per Tick

Post by JamieLei »

Recently, one of the main attractions of the US Set is that the trains load instantly, which enables me to create intricately timetabled passenger networks without the risk of huge delays caused by high passenger loads.

I was wondering, would it be possible to modify another grf, eg: the 2cc set such that every vehicle has a load of 255 passengers per tick? - I've looked into it but I can't seem to be able to find out how to do it.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm - sortof

Although most sets use individual load rates for different trains, which would presumably override that

Umm, can't that just be disabled by turning off the "gradual loading" advanced setting in game?

The problem then is that although loading happens instantly, the trains wait for a considerable period of time relative to how much they have unloaded. So I end up with delays that are greater than originally with gradual loading!

Oh, they do? I always play with gradual loading enabled so wasn't aware of this. But if I understand correctly, the delays should not become more than with gradual loading, at most the same and often less as the "infinite loading syndrome"[1] should be avoided.

[1] While passengers are loaded, new passengers arrive, which are loaded in the next turn, during which new passengers arrive... sometimes until the train is full.

If highly wanted could i probably add a parameter or something to allow this when im gonna rework the parameter system sometime in the near future.

Could it be that you don't allow time in your timetable for the stops at the station?
I also play with timetables, but I don't have the problem that trains build up delays. I usually allow trains at least 666 ticks of unload/load time for each stop.

Maybe you have so busy stations that you are full loading anyway. The problem I described, usually occurs at not so busy stations where 3 days of loading is usually enough, unless only one passenger appears during the last loading day, adding another day during which at least one other passenger appears... IMHO gradual loading is broken by design at the moment. I have it on my list to write a patch for this, but unfortunately my list is long and my spare time reducing...
