Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
Hello to all OpenTTD-Players,
I need some help according to create an own multiplayer-server. I have no ploblems to join an existing multiplayer game. Inspite of that, in case of creating an own server, nobody can find it in the gamelist later and I dont know why. The game only appears with adding the IP.
What shall I do to fix it. Is it caused by some Network-Configs?
In Network-Topics - I'm not far from a noob, please help me.
Thank you very much.

You say others can join by adding your IP?
Then it's likely that server advertising is turned off. Open your openttd.cfg and try to find that option. Should be named "server advertising" or similar.
If you are on windows and don't know where your openttd.cfg is it is most likely in My Documents\openttd\openttd.cfg.

hello,im having similar problem, but people cant connect to me normal or IP,my connection and router are fine, any ideas?
Re: Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
If people can't connect to you then there's a problem with either your connection or your router. Read your router manual for information on how to run servers.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Re: Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
I started a game named <Quadat welcome ...> and no one is coming. Id like to know if someone could try and tell me if they can play or if something is wrong.
Thanks

Re: Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
Try to change the Port in the openttd.cfg , This one is located in "My Games\openttd" or (Vista) "documents\openttd"
You should change it to something like 1000.. i think 1000 is standard free for firewall ... i don't really know much about port forwarding
(i have a router, and it works fine ...) but it should work...

It worked fine last week when my son played with me. The port i use is 3979 as you can see on servers list.
Can you se the game ? If you try to access, got any message ?
Thanks

I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
Re: Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
If you start another client on another computer in your local network, can it join using your internal local IPs (10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x). (press add server in OpenTTD and type the local IP)
If it works using local ip, then try using your public IP you've got from your ISP.
Second, in your router have you defined the port forwarding to the correct local IP, and for the right protocol (TCP/UDP)? (I don't know if TCP is needed or also the master game-server uses UDP to communicate)

Re: Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
On my server, how can my game pause and unpaused automatically when someone wants to play ? Do i have to start the game in pause mode ? Actually, if i dont pause, game continue even if i am the only player and i dont want that. If i pause, no one can play its stay in pause mode.
Any hints for me ?
Thanks

There's a minimum player setting in the config filequadat wrote:On my server, how can my game pause and unpaused automatically when someone wants to play ? Do i have to start the game in pause mode ? Also you may want to check out autopilot or its successor, ap+.

Re: Need some help with own Multiplayer-Server
1. there is a readme file.... little hint: read it!
2. there is a wiki (wiki.openttd.org)... little hint: read it!
one of those is bound to help! and your question clearly shows that you have not even touched the readme file (that is a good hint where to find an answer to you question too)
