[OTTD] Smaug's Vision Flights

Post by Smaug »

Hi all,

I've been playing TTDPatch from it's very beginning with only one escapade to OTTD two years ago. A month ago I decided to try OpenTTD again and I was amazed by the progression the developers have accomplished. My very first screenshot in this screenshot topic is made from this second escapade of mine to OpenTTD.

The screenshot is called: Park and ride. It's obvious why it's named like that I guess. More screenshots will follow soon...

Regards,
Smaug

Indeed, must've taken quite a lot of work to squeeze all of that in there!

Thanks for your comments! :)

Indeed, it has. It took me about a day to figure out the main infrastructure of that town and another one to finish it off; I'm a perfectionist... Sorry about that, hehehe.

Here's another screenshot from a nearby town. The town lies in a valley. Down town, in line with the valley, you can see the main passenger line which connects most towns on this side of the map. High in the sky, bridging the valley, you can see a side-branch of the main cargo line, mostly used by heavy coal trains and other mineral trains that get their cargo from the mines in the mountains in the wild west.

That's pretty nice too, reminds me of the East Coast mainline weaving through Newcastle towering over the quayside on a viaduct:

I don't know, but these shots show it's not all about "efficiency" and "big mainlines" and "mega junctions" etc... Eye pleasing OTTDing is great in my opinion.

Absolutly excellent shots Smaug! I hunger for more!

Oh, and Dream Theater are amazing.

Thanks for your positive comments. I'll come up with more for as long as I live, but it takes a lot of time to build my networks so you'll have to wait a bit sometimes. :)

Must be a great sight with a train on that. England is on my wish list, mainly because its the crib of railroads and full of nice old stuff and ghosts...

Sleepie is right. It's the glorious North American City Set. You can find it here. In my game it is combined with the TTRS3, but the buildings aren't divided equally.

You asked for it; here comes another screenshot. This junction lies at the and of the valley you have seen in the previous screenshot. I'm not yet finished with the local transportation services in these towns, except for the astounding articulated busses, which serve between this central station and the next with the 'park and ride' of the first screenshot half way.

After a day of unflagging industry I will present to you two new shots.

The first shot is a small overview. There you can see the viaduct crossing the town Au Valdran from my second screenshot and the railroad junction from my third screenshot with the towns Eptibee (down under) and Dertvi (right). The wood logging station is to be seen in close-up view on the next screenshot.

The second shot is a busy wood logging station. To get to the upper right track, the one train that goes there has to go to the empty dead end track on the left and then return. It was a nice little puzzle to get the train doing just that. The buffer at the end of the dead end track is part of the station and it made the ordering of the train less simple, but definitely more fun. :)

I especially like...everything.
Although it is clear that the modern TTRS skyscrapers are very incongruous.

It has been a while, but my little, 4 months old daughter consumes a lot of my time.

Here a shot of a nice little town called Withery.
