what junction is this?

Post by Dune »

I made a junction today, and I wonder if this type of junction have a name? Im also curious if there are other junctions that could be made to make this 4-way track more effective.. I am using trains with 26 wagons in this junction..

I dunno, but the sharp short turns are going to cause problems with high traffic.

Once piece of diagonal track is a sharp turn. 90 degree turns are unrealistic. Usually the turns have enough diagonal pieces to fit a train on before it turns again. The shorter the turn, the more the trains slows down. Have a look here.

Edit:
Try here as well.

Ive edited my junction a little now.. reduction of 45 degrees turns in the entrances.. only two of the tracks slow down dramaticly now (maglevs slow down to 220km/h on the two bridges with most 45 degree turns). AND, ive turned on the realistic train acceleration now, hehe..

Still the turns underneath the bridges are sharp turns. Although I must say they make the junction nice and compact.

I don't know if there is a name, that's the first time I see it here.
I must say that I like this junction.

Since you're splitting so far away from the center, why not just lay right-bound tracks as horizontal and vertical lines? (attachment)
It will make the junction look bigger than now but in fact, these lines will be so far away form the central part, that one can hardly count them into junction itself :P

Edit... I seem to have mixed the directions on the picture... These are left-bound lines in your case
