short brigde fast speed

Post by 8h »

hello,

Ive spend hours optimizing my network so that trains can run with full speed almost everywhere. now Ive come to a point where I need a 3 tile brigde and the best I can get is one with a max speed of 200 kph something wheares its possible to build long brigdes with a max speed of 600 kph something. is this a bug or intended ?!?!

Tubular bridges have a minimum length of 4 tiles (2 tiles plus the ramps).

it doesnt make much sense that 3 tile "fast brigde" allows much slower speeds than a long one. im a bit suprised that it disturbed no one so far. does anybody know what and where do I have to change in the code to alter the birgdes max speeds?

It somewhat bothered me at first, when I played TTD (long ago), but I got used to it. Besides, I almost never need such short bridges; the worst case is when they go over another railway, which are always at least two tiles wide.

You should check src/tunnelbridge_cmd.cpp; the parameters for the original bridges seem to be there (look for orig_bridge, near the top).

why use bridges ? when you can't put signals on them ?

for 3 tiles, why not just bring up the land ? :?

Edit : i was thinking something else  sorry !!

@0004tom: because it should go over another track? (look @picture in 1st post?)

im a bit suprised that it disturbed no one so far.
It did disturb me like 1 or 2 times, but not that much that i wanted a new bridge.
However you could post it on flyspray as a feature request. Fast (as in maglev fast) bridge for <4 tiles.

And the reply to that would be "make a newgrf".

true, though a somewhat easier solution would be decreasing the minimum length for the tubular(s)... i wonder if there has been a discussion about this already - are there any points against this?

There are no graphics for those short tubular tunnels.

I often wondered why the 3 title bridge is not fast enough. In our railway system we always try to avoid 3 title bridges or find another path. It would be a great relieve to have a grf with fast 3 title bridge.

the simplest solution would be to simply increase the "girder, steel" max speed or use its graphics for a "girder, whatever 650kph"

You just don't get it, do you?

To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

looks like you could probably move the top-right tunnel back a square

Well, I think whoever can make changes to the bridge length, style and speed, just doesn't get it also. If so many people want that change, and for OTTD, why shouldn't it come?
Oh, ignore me, I am thinking aloud.
But still the fact remains. Users, not programers, want it changed.

The fact also remains that this is an open source project. If you want something done, it's up to you to make it happen, either by doing it yourself, or finding someone willing to do it for you.

Politeness and etiquette will get you everywhere young padwan - so think before typing.

The developers are very busy doing more interesting things than changing a bridge length. Id rather have Trams, newidustries, new_airports, than a 1 tile shorter bridge. Do what I do when I cant work something out and find a solution. Its a challenge. Its just like real life. And surely, thats part of the game. What fun is a game where everything is easy?! :?
