Suggestions to OpenTTD

Post by Freedom »

1) When I buy a competitors company I usually reply his loan. But it takes ages and milion of mouse click to reply 10mil pouds. It will be very helpfull if is there an option to reply whole loan on one mouse click.

2) It will be also very helpfull when buy a share is not in height of 25% step but if the steps to buy a company are smaller 10% its more realistic.

3) I will be more realistic and more usefull and helpfull if I could choose an airport orientation so I can fit some rectangular airport better in place.

4) If a new company is founded in its firts years zou cant buy a share so, disable the button to buy a share until is possible and dont fix it with a warning window its realy stupid its looks like a Microsoft programer done this.

5) When you play an OpenTTD in some other languages some buttons and windows are to small and the game looks horrible. Please, resize those windows.

6) When I list a company cargo station I could sort stations ordered by cargo rating and cargo waiting value. It will be very helfull if I could see the rating in % not just sorted list and the same in waiting cargo will be helpfull if I could see number of wating cargo.

How I can gain over someone who can bring those changes or some of them to game. I am not a programer and patch is not solving this issuse just try to aplly patch you have writen in january in december release it wont work.

Sorry, for my horrible english coz I am not useing it for ages.

1) Press ctrl and click.
2) Already suggested before, but you're free to code it.
3) Not possible with the current system I think.
4) Again, go code it again. And be grateful to the devs and don't go call them MS programmers.
5) That's the fault of the language, they shouldn't be using such big strings.
6) Click the station, you'll get the number. Presenting the numbers in the station list will clog it IMO.

And even if your compiler wasn't/isn't free, you probably don't want to buy a copy of the standard. Unless you're planning to write a compiler yourself, the chances of you needing the standard are vanishingly small.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

I don't agree with this one. English can be very short and concise, while many other languages don't have that oppurtunity. Designing a GUI for 'tight fit' with English and expecting other languages to fit is inviting problems and obscure shortening of the translated text. Believe me, I've translated a couple of (commercial) programs from English to Swedish, and about 30% of all the problems were the fact that the space for the text was so short and the dialogs had to go back to the programmer/designer for re-design. An example:

Code: Select all

Click Enter to continue
Klicka på Enter för att fortsätta
Another common problem is multi-use of a text string, where the translation needs two different texts - I don't know if OTTD has this problem too, just thought I should mention it.

OpenTTD uses string ID when selecting the string, so it does not suffer from this problem, as different ID's can have same english string but different translated strings in some langauges. So OTTD does not have this problem.

System where original (english) text and some context are used usually don't suffer from this either. Systems where only original english text is used as key to select translated texts are prone to this deficiency.
If you need something, do it yourself or it will be never done.

My patches: Extra large maps (1048576 high, 1048576 wide) (FS#1059), Vehicle + Town + Industry console commands (FS#1060), few minor patches (FS#2820, FS#1521, FS#2837, FS#2843), AI debugging facility

Other: Very large ships NewGRF, Bilbo's multiplayer patch pack v5 (for OpenTTD 0.7.3)

Well, sometimes the same strings are used in OpenTTD in two different places, and that can cause trouble. Of course not for long sentences that can only be understood in one way, but words like On and Off can have two (or more) different translations, and that can cause a hassle. Nothing a small change in the source can't fix, but that is still a hassle.
