Drawing a tunnel entrance

Post by Ben_K »

Afternoon all!
If I wanted to draw my own tunnel entrance sprites, how do I go about it? Do I draw a flat version of it (like a mock-up) and then have it split later if it gets to coding? Or do I need to draw it in individual parts? If so, what bits?

Have you decoded TTD's default GRF files to see how the tunnels are split there?

No. Is that the recommended way to do it? I wondered if people had templates or something already?

Well, decoding probably helps you finding out how it works, it can't hurt anyways.
And I'd say the original GRF file is your template :D

i made some tunnel graphics back quite some time, and i made them based on how the original ones worked. so yes, Purno is right, that is the way to check it out.

good luck though, there's been too few done with tunnels so far.

Well, as I have read a big part of OTTD (namely the /TTD/ part ) has been done by reverse engineering, so I think it also helps to use the same procedure for creating graphics /for/ (O)TTD(Patch).

Much of what I've learned about TTD graphics was also by using the magic decoder wand :D.
