> Michael - will your next version of NewShips also be compatible with the original industries too?

Yes, o/c. As Csaba said, there´s no reason not to support those already existing goods, especially because they´re sort of a subset of the ECS goods.

> Do you think water is transported in ships anywhere in the world?

Yes, it is. And in NewShipsXL, inland navigation vessels are able to transport it:

Gah, you're evil, Michael. Just go and remind me again how much I want those canals and locks...

I think I'm going to have to do something similar for the Japanset at some point...

Yeah. But I could even be more evil and point out that IMO the canals feature isn´t completed still and that´s why the delay. Problem would be that Oskar would try to roast me then. Mmh, better keeping my mouth shut. 8)

Anyway, everything shown will be in NewShips XL, problem is that ATM I´m working exclusively on DBXL v0.9 (if at all) ...

Oh, it seems I should've kept my mouth shut if I can't verify what I say. Still, could you tell me an example where it makes sense to transport water on... err, water?

Actually there has been some discussion about middle eastern countries importing water by the shipload. This is for real ... Canada has been suggested as a possible source and every so often someone seriously suggests towing an ice berg.

Seems everytime they sink a well for water in the middle east they end up with a load of some kind of sticky smelly black goo.

Well, water tanker vessels are quite common. Although they´re not as big as tankers for crude oil, they can usually be found

- in every navy,
- in harbours for the water supply of vessels,
- water supply of oil rigs and other marine-based activities (expeditions, excavations, treasure hunting :)
- serving islands with no natural water reservoirs, e.g. in the mediterranean (greek islands),
- sometime ago I read about Israel importing water by tanker vessels from southern Turkiye
- etc.

I must have some picture if a water tanker vessel in my data vault, but that´d need some searching. 8)

I dunno if Japan has transport canals, though, so I don't think we need worry about those. My real question for Michael would be, where did he find an extra ship slot for inland navigation vessels?

Split this off from here. I know that these posts are old, but it helps clean up the original thread, which seems to be active again, AFAIK.

What feature? As far as I know Josef has added the necessary stuff since ages... So it's not our fault.

speed fraction and Ocean speed fraction.

So don't blame us if you don't finish your set...

But OT as well, because the restarted discussion is about LV. :P

@Oskar

I don´t do. Never. But the reason I was refering to wasn´t any old feature but things which have been in discussion in the past but never finished (like possibility to have more than 11 ships or the possibility to have additional canal slope tiles).

So why aren't you triing to come out with the existing ships, locks, canals and docks. Even if there are no new features available, your graphics are really worth to release them. Especially the locks and canal graphics can replace the existing ones. For the ships the refitting option could be used as much as possible (I remember a discussion in one older thread). It would be really a pity if your great work will be hidden on your pc forever.

As said before, I will release the NewShips XL version, independantly of any new patch features to be still in development, i.e. as it is, but with support of the full range of ECS cargoes.

OTOH, due to the fact that I´m still working on v0.9 of the DBXL and a new version of ECS-compatible NewCargos, the whole thing would be benefit if put (and released) together, from technical reasons.

And yes, a number of persistant bugs in TTDPatch (namely with the concept of articulated MUs) gives me even more time to work on additional features. Which is a good thing, IMO.

I stated several times that I won't change the current canal system as far as I think it's good enough. You can change the cliff sprite via action 321 ...

I don't like horrible big constructions. If you can come up with a decent way to fix your "gischt" spray problem, then we may talk about it otherwise no. Generally I don't think thats a killer problem to not release a set.

And I already told the last time on the mailing list that it's not possible to have doors at locks, or other stuff like collision detection.

About the slot system,it's still on my todo list. But there are A LOT other stuff on it, atleast is very urgent. Generally we all wait for more time and that certain other stuff gets finished first. Like newroutes or the newmaparray system.

I'm kinda confused - what feature is missing that would prevent NewShips from taking advantage of everything in TTDPatch?

ASFAIK, Canals have been finished for ages? They work fine, I've never seen a bug, and I build one-way canals using buoys to guide my ships... The only things missing are Michaels funky new canal graphics (especially those cool snow ones ;)) and newshipsXL.

Of course, I find myself asking a lot of questions about TTDP that I missed during my recent hiatus, so feel free to shun me if I'm asking silly questions. I'd do the same... (well, no I wouldn't, but I'd feel the same annoyance ).

> I'm kinda confused - what feature is missing that would prevent NewShips [...]

Mmh Rai, could you please stop talking about "lacking canal features"? This would only upset Oskar because it´s not true. At least not with regards to its current functionality.

Everything else was just a joke:
But I could even be more evil and point out that IMO the canals feature isn´t completed still and that´s why the delay. Problem would be that Oskar would try to roast me then. Mmh, better keeping my mouth shut. 8)
O/c there have been reasons for that joke (resulting from many discussions between Oskar and me about additional canal features in the long past) but I don´t think discussing this again would be helpful.

In no way is the current status of Oskars´canal features hindering me to release NewShips XL. The delay is only with me.

Hope that makes things clear once and for all.

That's the problem with inside jokes. People on the outside don't always get them, and the result when they don't is rarely pretty.

I'm quite sure the result wouldn't have been pretty had I noticed that post when you made it.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
