Game time

Post by Pipifax »

Hi,

I want to know exactly how fast the time in TTD should pass. As far as I remember, someone has written in another topic that it should be 6-8 seconds per game day. After running the newest patch which enables to see the full date even without pausing, I realized that a day takes just two seconds! And the vehicles obviously don't move faster because of that. What could be done against this? Which slowing-down programs would you prefer?

Here is the topic: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=1629
It says: "The number of days per minute of actual gameplay is 30 days for 3-4 minutes."

One TTD day is 74 TTD "ticks", and each TTD tick is at least 27 milliseconds (more if your computer is too slow to handle the game at its "proper" speed).

This means one TTD day should be exactly 2 seconds. So your game is running at exactly the speed it should

Perhaps, "74" doesn't seem like a bit/byte/word limited number

So you mean that 2 seconds/day is the normal game speed, regardless of processor type and so on ?

I am running TTD on Win2k, with Athlon Xp 1800+.

If your computer is fast enough to process a day in two seconds, it will.

If your computer is slower, the game will run slower.

It is possible to slow down this rate, but it will make other things break. For example, it would also reduce the rate at which the game responds to input, so pressing a key or moving your mouse would take a long time to register and do something in the game.

It actualy seems to slow down at my place, I only use 233mhz so when a large ammount of vehicles are loaded the game seems to be a little slower.

Or try running it on a 486 sx 66 with 8 megs of ram. At 2000 the game will be so slow, that an hour is equal to a year in gametime.

Quite right Spiff - wouldn't get a wlow PC with an AMD! I only ever notice things running slower when I'm playing multiplayer but I suppose that's just the nature of a 10Mbps network :(
