Can you run OpenTTD in Classic mode?

Post by brettneale »

Hey guys, bit of a noob. But anyway, can OpenTTD be played in "classic mode" with no patches or other alterations? I love the original game and now I can play it on my Powerbook thanks to you legends at OpenTTD, but I dunno if I like the patches and all that...

Yes you can. If you would turn all the option in the patchesmenu off, it would
pretty much be identical to the original TT. Except for the bugs ofcourse  There isn't some sort of button, the automatically makes it look like the old TT. could be an idea maybe...

Cool, thanks. Can't wait to get back into this great game. Not worried about the bugs, my old PC used to crash every now and then anyway so it shouldn't bother me.

I'm not sure about the "disable all patches" thing. You would, for example, also disable inflation which is a feature of the original TT!

I'm afraid there is no way to restore classic TT(D) with OTTD. Or have I missed something?

Well, it would seem obvious to me that all the extra things openttd has can be turned off. So when you do turn everything off, it should be same as the original TT. I think the programmers didn't mean turning the inflation off, but turning off the improved inflation. In other words: if you'd turn it off, the inflation is similar to what it was in the original TT

Hmm... dunno. I'll try it. What do the developers say?

EDIT:
http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Disable_inflation
"If you disable inflation, it will be completely disabled, all prizes will stay the same throughout the game"
Like I said.

Call me when you find out the place where you turn off the landscaping toolbar.

I'm afraid you can't turn off the landscaping toolbar, either. I don't see the sense in it. Or, have I missed something again?

Ofcourse, you're absolutely right. *bows*
I ment the extras that directly improve the gameplay, like irregular stations, building on slopes, multi-headed trains, etc. That are the things brettneale would like to turn off.

And these are in "configure patches", not the "difficutity settings". So, you can play around the "patches", turn them off and check how does OTTD behave.

Been playing around with the patches and found a setup I'm happy with. Thanks dudes. Might play around with the patched version to see whether I like it or not. Chances are I will though, you guys must have put it in for a reason I suppose!

I don't see why anybody would not use the new features. If you investigate them, I think you will use at least some of them

HEAR, HEAR!
Ditto on the fast forward button, although I don't have a problem with that.

But not all of them. Some of us don't like some of the "features" that aren't in TTD and can't be turned off in OTTD.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Yeah, that landscaping toolbar bites the big one. It seems to pop up somewhere and it takes me a few seconds to find the thing on my Powerbook, thanks to the full-screen resolution. Playing TTD in high-res is cool!

You could just download the first release from SF.

Lol That's really good idea, however I'm not sure if it would work on his machine

Yeah, we could. If we wanted to turn off PBS, checkpoints, newgrf support, big maps, larger airports, and all the other *good* OTTD features, just so we don't have to deal with the landscaping toolbar.

I'll stick to a program which permits me to turn off the things I don't like (such as locomotiongui), without turning off everything added later.

well since it needs to run on a powerbook it would have to be the mac version and the oldest (0.1.4) got lib problems. The first version that worked without custom installed libs was 0.2.1.2

Don't get me wrong, some of the new features are good. I'm starting to play more games with bigger maps, bigger stations, etc and it's enhanced the game a bit. Hasn't killed gameplay which is GREAT! Also haven't had any bugs yet which I like, it seems really stable. It's just that damn landscaping toolbar!

Code: Select all

$svn log -r 3157
r3157 | peter1138 | 2005-11-09 02:25:55 -0500 (Wed, 09 Nov 2005) | 2 lines

- Feature: Added patch option to link the terraform toolbar to the rail, road, water and airport toolbars. If enabled, the terraform toolbar will open and close with those toolbars.
Thanks again, Peter.
