Station naming convention

Post by peter24 »

Being new to OpenTTD, I have just noticed that the station naming convention has changed.
The first station is named after the town, the second station is the name of the town with "central" on the end. These have remained the same as in the original game.
When the 3rd station is built, it gets named "lower <town name>", whereas before it would name it "<town name East>" for example.

Is this configurable? Could it become configurable in a future release?
Perhaps all the possible permutations of station names could be put into drag and drop list so people can move them around which would then denote the order in which the game applies them.
E.g
1. Town name
2. Central
3. Parkway
4. Exchange
5. North/South/East/West
6. Annex
etc

Am i making any sense?
:)

It's probably been raised before.

it depends where in the town you put it, and how close too.
JPG SUX!!! USE PNG!!!
There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

Yes, I am aware of the name being dependant on where you put the station, but my comment/suggestion was more around changing the naming convention back to how it was originally, or as I said, make it configurable.

The <town name> North, South, East, West seem to have fallen down the list and now come after Lower, Upper, etc.

Does it really matter? Change the names by hand if you don't like what comes up by default. :?

It was only a suggestion.

Sorry, I just meant that it seems like overkill to create an in-game interface specifying the order that the station names will be used. Maybe a conf file along the lines of:-

$1
$1 Central
Upper $1
Lower $1
$1 East
..

could be implemented, but I still don't really see the need.

I think it would be usefull, but it should also include where the station is build (like it is now if you build it in a forest), things like <town name> Oil for stations covering oil refineries could be possible then too :).
