couple of quick questions

Post by Geo Ghost »

almost every screen shot i look at, people seem to have flat land. why is that? You worried you cant do it on a tricky terrain? he he he.
The main reason im actually asking is because its a really good challange to make really hilly terrain. i did, and its great :D

Next question.
i forgot what it was
i'll post it later when i remember

I'm playing on a hilly landscape right now, and it's no problem for me to build on that, if you want I'll add some pics

i made this like, hilly island kinda map. its quite fun as you cant actually get to a town because of a massive hill, and forest in the way.

i dont know why i cant remember that 2nd question, i had it in my head, then i just came to type it, and blip, its gone :?

i think most screenshots here are because people experimented with rail systems, huge stations etc, and it's a less lot difficult to do that with flat terrian

Your right, thats more difficult to build in mountainous terrain.
When using heavy trains like this ones i need atleast 25 tiles distance for one tile hight difference.
This is just for keeping the speed in the whole circus.
The way to travel is longer, but the amount of transported cargo is much bigger in this way.
It's like the way motorways are climbing the Alps.

That looks very interesting. a bit like the railways that go up mountains side ways bit by bit.
or the rack-rail systems that go up in one go

very realistic. also very expensive to build but very good in design.

Building through hilly terrain is expensive.

Especially the sandy coloured hills on the North American maps.

This section of Las Vagas to Pueblo route was built at a time when a single piece of straight track on flat land cost $22, and a diagonal $30. In the shot there is only one piece that cost this little. :(

2 words "Map size"

To build an awesome, complicated and large network on hilly terrain you needs LOADS of land to do so. Hilly spots, valleys, mountains. Loco's maps are just too small to accurately make up complicated rail systems just because of how fast towns grow. Also as a screenshot above showed, you need 1 screen to scale a hill. To do that 20 times on a map, it leaves you with very lil places to build your complicated switches.

If you want a challenge, build your hilly railways properly (levelling off areas and making cuts into the sides of hills) instead of just using those accursed brick viaducts everywhere. Faster trains too.

Big Alpine railway and tram links.

the railway was the best i could make it with-out having any major slip-ups, or cost problems.

The Trams, are a major link to nearby towns. they move very quickly which is very help full.

Also i included 3 extra pictures, 2 of an underwater system, like the channle Tunnel, and some station i made once.

Edit:
REMEMBERED THAT SECOND QUESTION :D

how do people get such big stations? i can hardly make mine big atall. any hints?
