TTD on W98SE, installation problem.

Post by BrokenDownFlier »

After 2 hours of searching this site page by page in both TTD and Problems, tis time to admit defeat and ask. When I try to install TTD for Windows, it hangs up on the DirectX setup. Now I already have DX9.0c but the installer isn't smart enough to know that so it locks up my computer. Has anyone found either a fix for this or a download with an intelligent installer that checks DX versions?

Thanks

I'm not sure, but you can use Shadow's Registry Editor as a substitute for WinTTD's installer package

Alright, got the program....and from http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=8162 I got directions on how to use it but since I'm 98SE and not 2k do I still need the ttdpatch.cfg with
win2k on?

Probably not, try both though.

I feel like an idiot. The game only locked up because the default unzip folder is too long for such an old game. After I renamed my install directory to ttd4w, I had no problems installing the game or the patch. Thanks to all those who offered advice.
