They are trams often refered to as LRV, just it has segments that are articulated to ease it around corners, we have a tram similar to those here in melbourne, and also 3 different types, 2 with 3 segments and one with 5. combino and citidias (SP?) i wouldnt mind seeing more modern trams in LoMo
the cupcakes made me do it

Heh. The 'O' Train.
The 'C' Train.

Heh, Almost identical to the regional diesel-trains that NSB operate on the un-electrified lines in Norway (raumabanen, rørosbanen, nordlandsbanen), which they dub the "type BM93"metalangel wrote:

Guess bombardier-adtranz supplied the both of them, eh?

Ehm, no these are trams, and they are actually used in cologne, but in reallity they look a bit different then the 3D models.

(They changed the coperate design a bit, these are the new ones)
For a good list about cologne trams:

The 'O' Train is diesel, with OCTranspo (the silly named Ottawa transit commission, but then, in Montreal it's called STCUM) seeing if it's viable and maybe electrify it later.

That thing is definatly a tram used in Cologne.
That diesel vehicle presented here is a Siemens Desiro. A modern light DMU...
I guess what he means is an interesting tram/train system, which was first used in Karlsruhe:
The AVG operates EMU units which can run under usual 16 2/3 kV of the german rail, and under their low voltage tram wires. The goal is simple: Instead of changing from train to tram when you come from the fore-cites, the trams are basicly driving as regional trains inside of the city and simply continue as trams in there.
Kassel wants a similar model: Their new EMU is called "Citadis", it also runs under the high voltage DB wires and the low voltage tram wires of the Kassel tram. But I am 100% sure that this is NOT possible for Locomotion.

103er: they used to do that with interurbans in North America (interurbans are EMUs from the first half of the 20th century) which would run on mainline rails in the countryside but could also run down city streets if needed.

Until they stopped the services some 5 years ago, services from London to "Weymouth Harbour" would diverge from the main line just before Weymouth station, and run along the old tramway - which is laid on public roads. Even until they closed, the train (typically push-pull with a 31 or 33 on front) had to leave at low speed, since the old "Red Flag" rule had to be observed (albeit without an actual flag).
Hmm, in Cologne it's a bit different.
we have KVB that runs the tram system in 800V (aka, not DB compatible)
Then we have HGK, they only use diesels for freight transport.
Some parts are in mixed usage, for this:
a) there aren't raised platforms used (because trams are smaller, so freight wagons would hang)
b) special turnouts otherwise the trams could hang, thats why there are special frogs.
The rules differ between Underground Cologne, Cologne, Bonn, Bonn Underground, and using the HGK parts (then it's a train not a tram).
Yes you need to know 5 rules from one end-point to the other

And it looks remarkably simliar to the Croydon Trams, here is my own photo of one at Geroge Street, Croydon, London. Actully, its nearer to East Croydon, taken on Friday 12th September 2003, a day I will never forget. (a certain incident happened, which meant, I have avoided trams ever since!)103er-Fan wrote:That thing is definatly a tram used in Cologne.

Sure, look at http://www.bombardier.com/ and you see why.
But London hasn't the Rhine (Rhein) (look at the name of the jpg)
Anyway, could someone made the bombardier tram Flexity Swift in Red White color?
They are used in Cologne and London - Croydon and look almost the same.
In Istanbul, Minneapolis, Rotterdam and Stockholm they are used aswell, put they look different...
