I could, except it doesn't work. Apparently the SRTM plugin doesn't work with newer versions of Google Earth, and GE3 just says it "needs to close".

Google Maps has some sort of elevation data, but it also has text on it which messes things up. I also can't think of any way to get a heightmap in high resolution from it, as screenshots really aren't enough for large areas.

Well ... i did not make a large area... approx 34700 square kilometers of real land area. It came out pritty good.. but i had to correct the places where the text was manually ... maybe someone knows of a way to NOT show the text on Google maps

I have a seemingly unique problem in creating heightmaps: i have a mac. one of the pieces of software you call for is PC only. Any alternatives?

Or, if that can't happen, can someone make me a heightmap of new jersey and the surrounding area? 2048x2048, with navigable rivers?

thanks in advance

Nope, i don't use mas its a POS that's only good for media editing, and maybe gaming if you shell out the cash for a decent mac, where as with the few thou you use to buy a mac can go towards a awesome PC with windows 7 :)

i use macs because it's what i like. for some things, it's easier and better, and for some things, it gets in the way. i like it because i have 4.5 TB internal storage, all 750 GB HDDs in factory-included slots, almost filled with music, movies, and TV.

but that's besides the point. any way anyone can make me a heightmap of NJ and the surrounding area? a huge one? i'm going to make a pretty kick-ass scenario out of it, which i can upload here.

I guess you'll just have to make it by hand, theres a few scenarios like that
like the Australian map and the north America\USA map

I suggest to look around at the NOAA's website: http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/dem/demportal.html

It's Sidney, NY, about 2 sq. miles. I want to import it into worldpaint.

A very nice effort. I was working on creating scenarios on South Asia, specialy Indian subcontinent. so I will be very happy if you can make heightmaps of these regions. At now try to make heightmaps on the regions below-
1) south Bengal- type West Bengal on google map and fix the box at the south of river ganga.
2) Jammu and Kashmir
3) Deccan- just place the box on the souther penninsula of India. it may include Sri Lanka too.

THANK YOU

Hello,

I'm now trying for weeks to get a cool heightmap of the Netherlands westcoast. Amsterdam in the north, to rotterdam in the south, The Hague in the west and Utrecht in de East. 4 large cities and everything between these cities.

This part of the Netherlands has a high density of railtracks and should be very nice to play!

Can anyone help..?

I know there is alreay a map of the Netherlands, but I find it too basic.. :-(

Could you make a heightmap of Orcas Island in Washington State? I tried previously, but I couldn't get the water level quite right. :D Thanks for doing this!
