Pardon me for suggesting a stupid idea, but I've noticed people asking to do a repeat of Crewe where we met in a pub and then went to something interesting.

Now, if there is enough interest, we have the "pub meet" on a Saturday, and an "activity" day on the Sunday, So those of you coming for the booze can do that on Saturday, those of you wanting to do the activity can do that on Sunday, Those of you wanting to do both can do both.

So far, people have suggested the following:

* Science Museum: Can be done in 1/4 of a day, although a full day is better
* Bluebell / Nene Valley Railway: Both are good suggestions, need to check their timetables and if we could reserve the whole of a coach.

I have a few others:
* Bekonscot
* Didcot Railway Centre (GWaaaarrrr)
* Chessington (Who likes rollercoasters?)

Also: if people get fed up of the pub, what about a quiz/competition? :D

That means that people have to stay somewhere though. And I don't think Dave would be too happy with us all turning up in Finchley.

We had quite a good setup in London before, in 2008, where we had the pub, a game, and then more pub. Something similar this year may be a plan, with "the game" perhaps being a trip to the science museum or something (I don't know, just repeating the idea above).

We could even go back to the same pub, for a wee bit o'nostalgia. ;)

Hang on, I posted here last night and now its disappeared....

Wierd.

What I did say was that we all shouldn't be turning up in Croydon, (I.e. My home) in reference to Jamie's post.

I really didn't think it broke forum rules.......

That would be pretty good. NVR would probably work better because of the easy connections at Peterborough. Get there from London in 40 mins to just over an hour, depending on the service used. Plus East Coast services to the north, Cross Country services to Birmingham, EMT services north, east and west.
In terms of connections, NVR would certainly be a winner for a heritage line meet. Though that's just my view of course. You'd be limited by timetables still unfortunately.

Other than that though, I'd vote for London or York. Both easy to get to and lots to do. Plus this summer there's bound to be some interesting events at the NRM in York I would have thought.

I suppose the big question is, who's going to step up as organiser :P

Bluebell is actually quite a good suggestion.... Their East Grinstead extension opens tomorrow and its not exactly too far from London. Links to National Rail are very good being quite literally next door to the station. If needed there is a summer bus service to Horsted Keynes if needed. There's a 4VEP there as well :-)

I will make no contribution to influencing where it is held this year, after my complete failure for 2012.

However if I can make it, I will.

No one wants to go to Croydon anyway.

Well look - the transport museum is like £15 to get in so maybe not. I won't be coming if it's some ridiculously obscure location. Unfortunately whilst the Bluebell would be a good day out it's inconvenient for all of our foreign friends - it's not fair to ask them to travel to obscure locations they have no idea about. It would also make it a lot easier for people to get confused and lost.

I think you have to have it in a decent sized location - even York was probably pushing it but let's face it that was planned for the Brits amongst us haha. We've been round the houses - now let's go back to London. Biggest turnout I believe - and there were some great faces there... Except my ex, whose face is dominated by an exceptionally large schnoz.

I will go to a big city event in any town in the country - but I don't think there's any point planning it for somewhere like the Bluebell.

The Bluebell now departs from East Grinstead, if that makes any difference.

If we plan it well, those who want to go could possibly get down there for about 5ish for a run. Those who want to leave early - like Owen did in 2012 to a chorus of booos - can do so :)

I'd not want to pay the money they want for the TfL Musuem again, but London would be good.

That said, I'd love to go to an Acton Town open day, but that needs a bit more planning as tickets are quick to go. (unless you can convince them to hold a private session!)

I appreciate that sitting in a pub isn't the preferred option but don't see how we could arrange something without meeting in a bar first.

Like the idea of drinking all day then getting the last bluebell. I wouldn't be on it though. Too pissed after five hours.

I suppose, rather than flying in on the Friday night and flying back up on Saturday night, I could fly in early on Saturday morning, and stay Saturday night then return on Sunday. That way I could actually do stuff in the late afternoon/early evening. Just a shame there are no ABZ-LCY flights on Saturday morning, that'd be quite fun to do.

Looks like the earliest ABZ-LHR arrives at 10:05, so I guess that could work*. I would consider the sleeper, but I can't really afford it - however I have plenty of BA miles which I can use for a cheap flight.

* Or I could try out Virgin's flights, but that means departing at 06:35 and arriving 08:15, which is somewhat earlier than I really need to be there.

So... before sorting the "where" and "what" aspect, you're booking a flight already? :P

Anyways, if the meet is to be held in London I actually may be interested to join you guys. Provided I can get a few days off of course, but that all depends on the date chosen. Which I'll let you guys figure out :)

Aberdeen to London is a 9000 avios reward I take it :). Can you use it for a Aberdeen - Paris reward with a day stopover in London?

Yes Dave, we know you prefer London :P

I'd be very happy with London, or York personally. Depending on the dates of course :P
