Anyways, do you plan on drawing totally fantasy / made up trains, or use references of existing trains / concepts? In the latter case, could you show us some references of what you had in mind?
Thanks, I was able to spell better since I was in a better mood. Anyways, I'm mainly just making these up but I am putting thought and logic into them Especially for each Train Type (ie, Turbine, Diesel and Electric)
As for the appearance of the trains, I'm sorta Using some ideas from today's Modern Trains (Like the 500 Series Shinkansen or the TGV) and ideas of my own.

Get a good chat client (MSN?) and you can keep in touch with Jesse in real time. If Jesse is into TTDX, look into setting up some network games.
Oh I dont need to worry about taht, I talk to him already on MSN or XBOX360 (when imon it :P )

Hey, BTW, Ever herd of the UAC Turbo Train? You probably have, well, I've figured out one of teh reasons why they took it out of service, the noise it generates is about the same as a Jet on Take off, now having that go by you every so often would eventually start to p*** you off, and as for me, The sound of it kinda creeps me out (im weird like that, but after being subjected to various loud noises, especially being jerked awake and scared half to death by alarm clocks and having you father scare the s*** out of you when he knocks on your bed room door can eventually lead to paranoia and slight similar symptoms of shell shock)

I think taht if they ever try making a Turbine Train again, they should have some sort of noise dampener to reduce the Jet on Take off noise

Actually, I used to see it go by when I lived in Montréal and it wasn't all that noisy. I had also seen it when it was stopped on the CN main line because it had, once again, broken down. The reason they got rid if them is because they were not at all reliable and they could barely make it through a snow storm without stalling. That said, they already exist in three sets ... NARS and the Canadian Train Set and Michael Blunck's very old Arcticset.

And in the very old ArcticSet. In fact, it was the first train I did for that set. Ah well ..., after the Dm3. 8)

Just found out the old pages are still available. See http://web.archive.org/web/200502202036 ... att_2.html

And thanks to webarchive, even the links to already vanished sites are working yet again. 8)

This is indeed good news. :D
Perhaps you can convince Patchman to add the link to the first post of your thread where the current link goes to !Fehler 404 (aka 404 failure).
Better yet, perhaps he can arrange for you to take over the thread. 8)

Sorry, four. Don´t forget Born Acorn / Lakie´s Turbo train .grf.

Seems that the TT is indeed one of the most popular trains in already available .grfs. :P

It would seem that we have Turbo Trains showing up all over the place. I guess one more can't hurt.

I have to wonder at the popularity of a broken down mess of a train, but then I also often wonder at the broken down messes of some politicians.

I believe that the Turbo Train could have had a better life if it came out a decade later, then maybe it would have fared better against the Fuel Crisis of the 70's/80's and Also it might have had better parts leading to better reliability. I swear, if a company where to try again today, im sure they'd come up with something that's a hell of a lot more reliable. They Just need to find away to reduce the Damages to the Turbines when suddenly stopped and/or started. Also they could try using More Environmentally Friendly Fuels and/or Cheaper fuels that would still provide enough power to run the train.
Though, I wonder, what did they do about the few thousand degree exhaust coming from the Turbines? Maybe they used the same lining materials such as Ceramic like in air plane jets

All well and good, but if we are going to talk about "environmentally friendly" then I think the choices would be full electrification of the line or fuel cell technology (Perhaps from Ballard?).

Ballard Power Systems Inc?

A perpetual disappointment. A company with continuing "splendid expectations" but IIRC, the price came down from more than 112 US-$ in 2000 to a meagre 2 US-$ last week.

So far for the "environmentally friendly" fuel cell technology business ...

Aye ... The wheel fell off the machine after some major automotive manufactures (The same ones who gave us the bus in lieu of our trams) invested heavily in the company, stripped it of its automotive applications and then proceeded to abandon it mercilessly.

Hey I just though of something, it might be a little impractical but it would be useful for long distance lines and when power and speed are needed at the same time. So how about a Nuclear Powered Train, I'm sure that in the future if done correctly it could be safely used in small form for something like a Train. The only problem is it would need to have Split Second Emergency measures to reduce a Nuclear Explosion should the Train Crash.

Or maybe in the further future there could be Fusion Powered Trains or something like that, after all fusion is clean, and wont cause as much damage should it crash.

These ideas will probably get scaped but I just felt like putting them out there :)

"Problem" with all these ideas is that no vehicle is or would be powered by "nuclear power" in the first place, but by electricity or by steam generated in turn by utilizing "nuclear power". In this way, you´ll end up with the usual electric-driven locomotive or, in case of a ship, by steam turbines. How the power would be generated is totally irrelevant in these cases. Only if it´d be possible to drive a vehicle directly by "nuclear power" it would be something "futuristic".
Or maybe in the further future there could be Fusion Powered Trains or something like that, after all fusion is clean, and wont cause as much damage should it crash.
Are you really sure that "fusion is clean, and wont cause as much damage should it crash"? 8)

Well thats what I ment, Diesel Electric and Turbine Locos just use the Engines For Powering the Generators which make Electricity for the Motors that Power the Wheels.

And as for Fusion, Im pretty sure if done correctly it will be cleaner and wont be as destructive, it might Cause a Large Explosion but not as big as a Nuclear Power Train would do.

The concern with nuclear power is not the risk of an explosion but rather the spread of radiation in the event of a catastrophic accident. This is why such systems have yet to be deployed except by the Russian and US navies, and even there, the first question that comes up is whether containment has been breached.

Hmm, well, dropping that idea, how about super fast smart trains, using advanced computers it would be able to avoid most head on collsions, unless the train cannot stop (very unlikely) or the other train is cannot stop or is not a Smart Train. Smart trains still have a Operator but most controlls are Handled by computer such as Switching, Acceleration and Power, these can be over riden by human controll but thats oly needed when the computer cannot function properly (IE, bug or error while in operation)

They would also be able to Cruise at Very High speed (above 380 Km/h) and also would have Pressurized Cabins to prevent Damage from Compression and Decompression when enter and exiting tunnels at high speeds ( the 500 series Shinkansen Is plauged with this problem but not severly, mostly just ear poping but thats very annoying )

Oh and also, there would really be no need for a Single or Multiple Power Units as Each Carrage would have powered wheels
