I've found a bug with the 260mph/418kmh cantilever bridge. No matter what value the grf file is set to, except for 3, which shows US roads, the bridge always shows the grey European roads.

That's not a bug per se, that particular cantilever bridge is not touched by this grf file, only recolored. So you'll need to load the appropriate roadset to alter the surface (and without the roadset loaded, it's not really useful to align the bridges anyway).
When the main update comes, that bridge will get overridden with one of the new bridges, so this 'problem' will also disappear.

Sorry, I meant the last, red bridge. The recolored bridge has a 220mph speed limit and shows normal TTD roads, while the red one shows the European road without me even having the roadset activated.
I'm trying to use this in OTTD r9669 with the new US road set and have a couple of problems with cantilever bridges. Left one is the most expensive cantilever bridge, pillars show through the road deck. Right one is the least expensive cantilever bridge, with no pillars at all.

Purno's bridges are not a part of the US Road set so you have to use a parameter to turn the US Road set's bridges off. This is described in the readme file available on the download page of the American Transition web site here. It is possible that OTTD does not support parameters but as I do not use OTTD, I can't be sure of this.

The pillar bug happens in TTDP too, and the other bridge never had any pillars. The US Road Set has nothing to do with this.
Still, the bridge I was most interested in was the black suspension bridge, so I tried to edit the NFO file (the zip download didn't contain any readme so if I'm violating anyones license by doing this please say so) and remove the other bridges by deleting the lines 5-168 and 221- and almost got away with it. The bridge looks ok, but the pillars are all messed up. Any ideas?

Good bridge, bad pillars...

Just needed to be more careful and not remove so much from the NFO file, so I'm a happy camper now Those suspension bridges looks infinitely better than the originals.

Unfortunately I don't think that they have been updated to support Narrow Gauge rails yet.
There are also issues with TTRS3, aren't there? The combination of both gives me these things underneath the bridge... which disappear as soon as I turn TTRS3 off. And is it true that all ugly old road bridges have been replaced, but that some of the faster rail bridges are still the same as they were in the original TTD?

I think you'll have to disable TTRS's bridges by a parameter to use Purno's bridges properly.
But if I do that (set TTRS3 to 0000, for example, or also to 0010, which keeps the TTRS roads) the game crashes when I try to build a road bridge... no matter which of the two comes first in the newgrf.cfg
