Hi guys,
Yesterday I had the chance to take part of a very special event. I had a rail journey on the so called Bördeexpress to the Christmas Market in Aachen.
The Bördeexpress runs from Euskirchen via Zülpich and Düren to Aachen. The special thing about it is, that usually, the line from Euskirchen to Düren is not served by passenger trains any longer. A small group of people is fighting for its reactivation and has organised this trip. Turnup of passengers was massive and a real success for the organisers. The train consisted of three Duewag "Regio Sprinters" hired from the "Rurtalbahn" a local train operator.
Here are the pics of the journey:

While the passengers then walked around Aachen and spent their money, I was able to join the traincrew to where they parked the consist until the evening. The had arranged with a local technical university, that they will park the consist on their tracks, which branched off the mainline from Aachen to the Netherlands, in Aachen West.
The switch however, had to be handled manually by our guys. Of course, that switch is rarely used and therefore, it got stuck with us and our train standing in the middle of the mainline. The controller, to which we talked to over the phone got really pissed, even though, it was not our fault. But we blocked all other train traffic for about 10 minutes...
After the train was savely parked, we took the time to spot some freight trains there as well. That was great, as there were a couple of Belgian Diesels manouvering around, which I haven't seen before, and a german BR241 "Ludmilla" as well.

I hope you like the pics.
I certainly enjoyed taking them. Comments and feedback is welcome, as always.
