That sounds quite interesting! Remember:

Ok, I managed to upload some more shots.

1. and best new set is the shots taken at Zürich Mainstation. This place is so busy that it is hard following each train, especially when the full hour approaches and all the trains come in, and then again, leave shortly after the full hour.
Check out the pictures:
Zürich Mainstation

2. Set is of some trams and Trolley buses in Zürich. Note the double bendy trolley on some pics, as well as the new Cobra trams.
You find them here:
Zürich Trams and buses

3. This set contains some lovely shots of Swiss and German trains in the area of Schaffhausen and Neuhausen am Rheinfall.
Find them here:
Schaffhausen and Neuhausen

4. Last, but not least, the local buses of Schaffhausen and it's surroundings.
and this is the link:
VBSH Schaffhausen

@Michael,
I was on the hunt again today and managed to picture some ships on the Rhine. I think I will upload them tomorrow...

I'd forgotten just how mental Zurich HBf is, your pictures exaggerate that though. Because of the zoom, there is more catenary than sky!
Schaffhausen looks like a good place to go spot cross-border traffic too!

Aaah, nice picture. From the times when the main hall was stil used as part of the platforms, or so it seams. Nowadays, this is not the case any more. The platforms only start after the the hall...

It was bloody freezing, but it was worth it.

I decided, not to go to my usual spot at Cologne Mainstation, but to a new place at Cologne South.

Here are the pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 225936024/

Feedback welcome.

Enjoy

You've got some nice shots for the category of the competition this month. Some great shots. I seem to remember passing through there on the way to Koblenz. It's quite a sharp bend if I remember rightly.

Yes correct, it is quite a sharp turn. They have to go pretty slow there, which is good, as it gives you enough time to take some good shots.
And, compared to Cologne Mainstation, there are quite some freight trains as well as you can see by the pics.

It was raining cats and dogs today, but still, I felt the urge to go gunzeling.
So, in order to present you folks something new, I took a local train to Euskirchen today, to capture some diesel traction.
I was lucky too. The worked on the tracks on platform five, putting in the ballast on newly layed tracks. So we had a bit of extra-ordenary action.
Even though the weather was sh*te, I got some cool pictures. Anyone can go gunzeling in the sunshine...

so, you can find the new set "Euskirchen" at the usual spot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 282218055/

Enjoy :!:

Certainly a grey day.

This is another of the lines that I have been on, I did a round trip from Köln to Trier via Koblenz and Cochem and returned by the line through Euskirchen. I remember being struck by the fact that the train from Trier to Köln was hauled by a diesel loco (BR218 if I recall correctly) when everywhere was electrified, partically a large station like Euskirchen which was completely unelectrified. In the UK I'd expect that but not in Germany.

Some good photos once again.

Re: New pics online - Paul's Flickr experiments

Hi guys,

Yesterday I had the chance to take part of a very special event. I had a rail journey on the so called Bördeexpress to the Christmas Market in Aachen.
The Bördeexpress runs from Euskirchen via Zülpich and Düren to Aachen. The special thing about it is, that usually, the line from Euskirchen to Düren is not served by passenger trains any longer. A small group of people is fighting for its reactivation and has organised this trip. Turnup of passengers was massive and a real success for the organisers. The train consisted of three Duewag "Regio Sprinters" hired from the "Rurtalbahn" a local train operator.
Here are the pics of the journey: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 355320279/

While the passengers then walked around Aachen and spent their money, I was able to join the traincrew to where they parked the consist until the evening. The had arranged with a local technical university, that they will park the consist on their tracks, which branched off the mainline from Aachen to the Netherlands, in Aachen West.
The switch however, had to be handled manually by our guys. Of course, that switch is rarely used and therefore, it got stuck with us and our train standing in the middle of the mainline. The controller, to which we talked to over the phone got really pissed, even though, it was not our fault. But we blocked all other train traffic for about 10 minutes...
After the train was savely parked, we took the time to spot some freight trains there as well. That was great, as there were a couple of Belgian Diesels manouvering around, which I haven't seen before, and a german BR241 "Ludmilla" as well.

The pics from Aachen west can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 351547468/

I hope you like the pics.
I certainly enjoyed taking them. Comments and feedback is welcome, as always. :D

Just had a quick nosey through your latest additions to your flickr, Paul. Some good shots there again, have you been to Cologne South again?
One question that I do have, what is this?
Nice catch with the Dark Blue BR120, perhaps we'll see that in the new version of the DBSet, Michael? ;)

Aaah, you guys are too quick. I haven't even had the time to add the tags to these pics yet.

But yes, Ameecher is right, I was at Cologne South again today. The light was great. A clear day with low sun, made for some great shot. I got plenty of Class 66 infront of my lens again. These things seam to get mighty popular with the private railroads operators here in Germany.

The blue BR120 is a promotional for ZDF, the second German TV channel. It looks quite nice, I have to say.

The Cologne South Set has been updated: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 225936024/

Further, some pics were added to the Bonn set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 726927655/

plus some on the Rheinschiffe set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 724624574/

And a few old pics I found of the Dublin LUAS: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8165056@N0 ... 201134148/

Tony, didn't realize you are in Bonn as well. Let's hook up after Christmas when I'm back. We should take a trip to Aachen West, if you like freight trains.

And, on a side note, spotting has just become more boring since the timetable changed last weekend. Until now, we had some regional trains from Bonn to Wuppertal which were loco hauled by BR110. All these have now been replaced by the rather boring 425 EMUs.

so now in Bonn we have only 425s, Talents, 143 with doubledeckers, a couple of ICE2s and the ICs hauled by 101s or rarely by the 120s.

Happy 2008 to everyone.
Of course, the Christmas time didn't pass without some gunzeling. So a load of new pics are online in the Schaffhausen set: Link

And on one day, we decided to grab the chance and go into the hills surrounding Schaffhausen for a trip and capture some of the ice coating on the plants and trees, something really nice looking.

Here is the set: Icy Schaffhausen
