I found a small issue with OTTD: the electric locomotives can't be build under Electric Railway tool, but these are treated as steam/diesel locos. Forgot some e-rail flags?

Anyway, I love your tropical train set, because add some variation instead of using US-set on tropical climate.

Hardly.

How does OTTD decide if a locomotive is electric or not?

Here's a hint of advice. These sets, in this section, are made for TTD. If they work in OTTD, well, it's an added bonus.

I've played this set in OTTD for a short while, and the running cost were überhigh. No fun playing if passenger traffic isn't profitable. Dunno if running cost in TTDpatch are different TBH.

How does OTTD decide if a locomotive is electric or not?
OTTD uses GRF action 0 property 0x19 (Engine traction type) to decide if a locomotive is electric. It seems OTTD has a bug where if the action 0 property 0x19 is followed by an action 0 property 0x05 (Track type) the electric rail type gets overwritten. If property 0x05 precedes property 0x19 it works ok.

I will post a bug report.

Is this right?? The larger passenger car carries less than the smaller one??

Yes - this is correct. You get the choice of low-grade, low speed car or a luxury high speed car. This is so the 12L loco has cars to pull at road speed.

consider it that you're moving the train faster so ...think about it...its probably actually carrying more passengers in same year than the slower coach on same route

The MHD heat reclamation technology, first tried at GRXMAM garrat reached enough maturity for something special.

AT12 was a solution to a practical problem - howto build a fast steam locomotive.

After initial problems the final design was coined and prototype built. The locomotive exceeded expectations. The gas-generating MHD enhanced boiler provided 7000 hp, the design speed of 160 km/h was reached without problems. The set of a locomotive and power tender proved capable of over 550 kN.

Drooltastic man! These future locos are shaping up to be REAL nice :D

Question, any possibility of a cheap railcar of some sort for the early years for passenger lines that the tank engine is too much for? :P

Prototype?

Anyhoo - there were some very small locos which vere comboed with a mail car. Usually with just one driven axle. But I cannot find a tropical example.

Besides - the set will need some emus/dmus and more cars.. and all climate support and... :D

Mid XXI century railway technology at its finest.

EH'40', nicknamed 'Masai' was the first locomotive to complete the non stop run on the Cecil Rhodes' dream, the Cairo-Cape Town railway. First gracing rails of Kenyan railways it soon spread in various versions throughput Africa. It is an engineering marvel including gadgets such as contactless current collection or magnetic tractive effort increase system.

EH'40' packs 8000 hp, 360 kN, 250 km/h and just 66 tonnes. Avalible from 2040.

I was thinking something along the lines of the Doodlebug in the USSet, carries 25-30 passengers, 500-600HP, can pull a trailer or 2, but nothing too powerful

Nice electric BTW

So I gathered. The deal is - I have to have a prototype, or include something of similar concept - hence the idea of the loco-car combo (which would fit the set nicely btw :P).

----

When it comes to hauling heavy then you need heavy hauler for the purpose.

In 2024 BHP iron ore mine placed an order for a locomotive capable of hauling its 330 car trains by itsself. The solution came from EMD. 3CEX AC is a three part locomotive meant for _heavy_ haulage. Sporting a complete combined cycle powerplant is a marvel in itsself - with efficiency of 37% it is able to squeeze 14000 hp to the rail with a whopping tractive effort of 2534 kN. Maximum speed is 100 km/h.
