Re: Chill's patchpack v12
I fixed the link in the second post for the copypaste grf.Wasila wrote: Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to find copy_paste.grf and traffic_lights.grf. The link for copy paste is not available anymore and I cannot find the file on the traffic lights page.
Sorry, do not know why it was broken ... I think it worked before ...
There are three links in the first post of the trafficlights patch (wooden, light and dark). Install in the data folder and rename the one you want to use to trafficlight.grf -> only one of them should be named like that.
Savegame compatibility is with all savegames from v9_9_4 and later.Furthermore, is the latest version of the patchpack savegame compatible with version 9?
If you have a savegame started started in an earlier version you will need to finish your game with that version.
Edit:
Also restored the link for the "View and click vehicles in tunnels" patch. (was also broken when I moved the links from the second to the first post.)
Thank you for reporting Wasila.

or i might missinterpret the meaning as i found a town with 246% transported good ratio :
That seems to be a bugsie. It should not be higher than 100%. Was it still like that the next month?
yes i looked at the windows for 3 month in a row, actually i started writing my last post i only looked at two month and the transported good ratio was at 170%, by the time i was finishing my post another month had passed and i saw 246%...

Oh one more thing, i had a couple crash while using the road traffic light... but i have no clue were to look to give you more info about it...
Upload crash.log , crash.png, crash.sav as found near the config file.
here is crash.log : (could not upload it so i pasted it) But i believe this crash is not about the traffic lights....

the crash.png
and unfortunately i haven t made crash.sav for this time.
And the crash that happened probably with the traffic light, i haven t found the crash.png or .log.... but this one i did made a crash.sav (well i could also be wrong cause i definetly lack memory... not on my computer but in my brain)
Edit : Sorry i forgot to tell how it happened... the problem with linkgraph i was just selecting some cargo link on the map, and the crash about traffic light... euh my memory is not helping there sorry...
or i might missinterpret the meaning as i found a town with 246% transported good ratio :
That seems to be a bugsie. It should not be higher than 100%. Was it still like that the next month?
yes i looked at the windows for 3 month in a row, actually i started writing my last post i only looked at two month and the transported good ratio was at 170%, by the time i was finishing my post another month had passed and i saw 246%...
Quote:

Re: Chill's patchpack v12

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
Chill,
I really like the new v12. The traffic lights are a fun addition. Going to test this with a truck AI and see if it will solve the problem of AI vehicles "blocking the box" and causing gridlock in towns.

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
Thank you for the bugreports romazoon and Wasila.
You know you can change the extension of the crahlogs ... rename to crash.txt (or crash log.txt) and then you can upload them to the forums.
romazoon:
I have seen that crash before but was not yet able to reproduce.
From your picture it seems that the crash happened during redrawing the smallmap ... but you changed the parameters of the 2cc grf and your crash could be due to that also (->You clicking and the redrawing just happened to be at the same moment of the crash ...).
Please do not change GRFs midgame if you care for your game. if you want to try, do make sure that you have a backup ... , sometimes you can change them but most of the times not ...
I think that changing parameters midgame has the same effect as adding or removing them ... ifso it should be dissallowed just like adding removing GRFs ...
Any of the Devs can shed some light on changing parameters migame and its effects?
Wasila:
I could reproduce ...
When you start a game in the year 2000000 the date will overflow and after a while the game will crash. Also happens when using daylength factor 1 and not showing the time in minutes. In your screenshot the date is even missing ... hmm
If you start your game in the year 2050 you will have everything available also ...
I'll have a looksie after testing the departures board patch alone ... this does not happen in clean trunk.
Be careful where you put them, badly placed trafficlights will make the situation worse.
Do not forget that for putting trafficlights on town-owned roads there is a separate switch, the error message will tell you that though.

I always make a back up of my game, and change the name of the following savegames to not mess it up or lose it.
I have also no clue about changing parameter ingame.. Me too I m hoping for a develloper to clear this of our mind!
I lack of skill concerning basics stuff like this, but i understand things easily, it will be done next time sir !ChillCore wrote:You know you can change the extension of the crahlogs ... rename to crash.txt (or crash log.txt) and then you can upload them to the forums.
Re: Chill's patchpack v12
Or anybody's savegame for that matter.romazoon wrote: thanks for your kind advice (i believe you trying to prevent me from losing my nice games),
Crashes are bad enough but it really sucks having to say that you as player have broken it yourself and nothing can be done to recover the game -> changing GRFs messes up the savegamestate in such a way that most of the times the effects (if not crashing) can not be reverted. The big red warning that most people quickly click(ed) away says so ...
Crashes caused by bugs in the code suck too but those can be fixed by fixing the code without losing the game (most of the times).
Anyway, I still have to further investigate why your game crashed as I am not yet sure that it crashed because of changed parameters in the 2cc set.
Scenarios are just savegames. The only difference is that in the scenario editor more actions are allowed while being less restricted, but you can not play them. Changing GRFs there has the same unwanted effects as in normal gameplay mode thus it is disabled there also by default.I actually "try" to be very carefull with this, as i allready saw how bad it can affect the game... and the making of a scenario !![]()
The "way around it" should only be used for testing simple things when the savegamestate is less important and the game in question is not going to be played long term ...
Tested and reproduced in clean departureboards patch, when starting in the year 2000000 the date overflows there also.ChillCore wrote: When you start a game in the year 2000000 the date will overflow and after a while the game will crash. Will report in the departurboards thread.

Tis just you.EyeMWing wrote: Is it just me or does the fast forward button not work anymore?

As long as your computer can handle it, normal speed wil run at 2.22 seconds / day (or 74 ticks with higher daylength factors).
Fast forward uses all the resources it can find, and has most effect in the beginning of the game.
Check the cpu usage when your savegame is running normally, if the usage is near 100% already (200% during cargodist linkgraph recalculation if you have more then one core) then fast forward will have no or little effect.
If you want to speed things up anyway then you will need to turn off some things:
Set trees invisibe, do not show all details, animation and reserved track, disable vehicle smoke, etc,
Also downtuning some patches in the advanced settings can speed things up a bit.
If nothing helps you can always post your savegame so I can have a looksie myself ...

Changing a parameter is equal to changing NewGRFs.ChillCore wrote:I think that changing parameters midgame has the same effect as adding or removing them ... ifso it should be dissallowed just like adding removing GRFs ...
Any of the Devs can shed some light on changing parameters migame and its effects?
A parameter change may cause disabling of other NewGRFs, and thus remove those NewGRFs from the game.

romazoon, and everyone else who wants to mess around, you heard the man ...

I might still try to find out what went wrong in your savegames when you have changed GRFs or its parameters but it will have low priority ... chances are very high that the error is not in the code and not reproducable.

Well do as you see fit ! It s actually no importance to me that you fix that savegame (i allready used a backup and played a lot further).ChillCore wrote:I might still try to find out what went wrong in your savegames when you have changed GRFs or its parameters but it will have low priority ... chances are very high that the error is not in the code and not reproducable.

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to know the reason behind every crash ...
But if I say "go ahead and do whatever you want with your savegames", then I wil be bombarded with bugs that are no bugs, and I will be chasing ghosts instead of spending my time on fixing real bugs and making improvements. (-> guess why the Devs finally decided to disable it in the end. Believe me, it has been discussed for a long time before they decided to make such a big change
)
Glad you could continue from your backup. No more crashes for the moment?
I think I will be trying to reproduce your crash by changing the parameters in a savegame
I already tried clicking everywhere ... Do you remember what exactly you changed by any chance?

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
Huh. I guess something since 11.9.5/R21900 (the latest previous build of the patchpack I have handy) did something to kneecap performance - the same completely blank 2048x2048 map is all-consuming in the current version (even if I disable all the new patches) - full 100% on one core, but completely undemanding in the older version (less than 1% on one core).ChillCore wrote:Tis just you.EyeMWing wrote: Is it just me or does the fast forward button not work anymore?

1024x1024 consumes no resources at all - less than 1% in both versions, all other things equal.
My suspicion is that either I missed a switch somewhere (probably) or something isn't being properly disabled by the switches. Either way, I'll just play smaller maps, since I'm here for the new goodies.
I went ahead and attached the big map if you want to take a look. It was last saved in an old version, so it can be used for comparison testing.

ME too !! i was just affraid that you were trying to fix it for me... so i wanted to be clear about thatChillCore wrote:Don't get me wrong

And that s how your patch pack became awesomeChillCore wrote: I'd like to know the reason behind every crash ...

Nope, none at all... Lucky meChillCore wrote: No more crashes for the moment?

That s actually quite hard to say in proper word in English, but i ll try to explain (i did in a older post, but it s probably not clear):ChillCore wrote: Do you remember what exactly you changed by any chance?
So i was checking the minimap. I was turning on/off some links on the minimap legend. if i remind well i had a look at the minimap not long before, and i was selecting just a few or one cargo type, then i closed the minimap, shortly after when i reopened it was still same selection as before and i quite fast selected coal link and then it bugged...
I will also give a try if i can redo it (on the older save as i even more messed my actual savegame: I upgraded swedish house, and changed some more parameter of 2cc trains)
Mmh i let what i wrote as it could be usefull if your trying to reproduce bug, but after re reading your question, i m just realizing you maybe want to know wich parameter i have changed !!

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
right, i have tried a little bit more and thought of the following solution:ChillCore wrote: Find this code around line 1475 in town_cmd.cpp:and do this for each requirement that you want adjusted:Code: Select all
/** * Calculate demanded goods for towngrowth. * @param t This town. */ void UpdateTownDemands(Town *t) { t->max_pass = ((t->population >> 2) * 3 / 5) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo]; t->max_mail = ((t->population >> 3) / 5) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo]; t->max_food = ((t->population >> 2) / 7) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo]; t->max_water = ((t->population >> 4) * 5 / 9) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo]; t->max_goods = ((t->population >> 2) / 5) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo]; }
Code: Select all
- t->max_pass = ...; + t->max_pass = (...) * _date_daylength_factor;
for PASSENGERS and MAIL demands, they should be roughly the same as the "max generated cargo last month" rate (in the town info window under the line with "houses" and "population")
the idea is generally, that all cargo that is produced within your transport system, also has to end up somewhere.. and that should be roughly balanced, so that when a town is generating 1000 passengers per month, then it should also receive 1000 passengers a month.. so if your transport network in a city is really good and reaches out across all houses, then you transport the full max generated cargo, i.e. with the help of cargodist you also receive that same amount of cargo. so, then you would have 100% fulfilment of the passenger demand. also, the cargo generate factor has to be included here.. if you have it on -4 (like me), then obviously all your towns create less cargo, so the demand also needs to go down..
the three difficulty settings for towngrowth patch are then as follows:
normal: like described above: demand for town x = cargo generated in town x
easy: 75% of normal
hard: 125% of normal
now, this is all very well in theory, but i tried to actually code it and it does not really work (apart from the difficulty percentages; they are alright)
here is how i changed the function (only focus on passenger and mail):
Code: Select all
void UpdateTownDemands(Town *t)
{
t->max_pass = (t->population >> 3) * _date_daylength_factor;
t->max_mail = (t->population >> 4) * _date_daylength_factor;
t->max_food = ((t->population >> 2) / 7) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo];
t->max_water = ((t->population >> 4) * 5 / 9) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo];
t->max_goods = ((t->population >> 4) / 4) / _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo];
/* copied from TownGenerateCargo() to take town_cargo_factor into consideration */
int cf = _settings_game.economy.town_cargo_factor;
if (cf < 0) {
t->max_pass = (t->max_pass + ((1 << -cf) - 1)) >> -cf;
t->max_mail = (t->max_mail + ((1 << -cf) - 1)) >> -cf;
}
else if (cf > 0) {
t->max_pass = t->max_pass << cf;
t->max_mail = t->max_mail << cf;
}
/* reworked difficulty:
easy: 75% of normal demand
normal: 100% of normal demand (no change)
hard: 125% of normal demand */
t->max_pass = t->max_pass * ( -0.25 * _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo] + 1.5);
t->max_mail = t->max_mail * ( -0.25 * _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo] + 1.5);
}
basically i failed to understand how the "max generated cargo last month" value in the town info window is calculated or in which variable it is actually saved, so i couldn't repoduce it. i managed to gather the t->max_pass = (t->population >> 3) and the t->max_mail = (t->population >> 4) bit from the UpdateTownGenCargo() function, but this is not the whole picture.. if you start a game and run it on fastforward, the value for "max generated cargo last month" changes randomly even though the population stays constant. that bit i have taken from TownGenerateCargo() in the above code also has to do something with the whole thing where the cargo generation factor comes in, but when i have cf=0, even then the results are not really satisfying (see screens)

As I mentioned before I am not going to adjust my code to suit the needs of each and every GRF out there and if the combination of unmodified FIRS and towngrowth proves to be unplayable because of insufficient production values ... well then that is too bad.
I have done what I can do by fetching the correct strings.
I am still testing/adjusting my modified FIRS version ... goods is goods and water is the rest that gets transported in towns that is not mail or food.
For the moment alcohol, fuel and building materials are counted as water -> Dunno if enough can be provided yet and if I will be able to make all three demands appear as needed, will check later.
I might post it later, with proper credits ofcourse, if I get too much complaints and if I'm sure that demands can be met. (As bonus it will be playable in Toyland ...)
There is an increase in cpu usage indeed.EyeMWing wrote: Huh. I guess something since 11.9.5/R21900 (the latest previous build of the patchpack I have handy) did something to kneecap performance - the same completely blank 2048x2048 map is all-consuming in the current version (even if I disable all the new patches) - full 100% on one core, but completely undemanding in the older version (less than 1% on one core).
1024x1024 consumes no resources at all - less than 1% in both versions, all other things equal.
When I load your game I see a difference of about 10% in cpu usage, I made sure that other programs running in the background were not changed between loading it in both versions.
Wether this is caused by something in the patchpack(added/adjusted patches) or in trunk I do not know.
I did not yet have the time to play with settings as the changes made have to be made exactly the same in both verions for reliable testing and I have not yet compared clean trunk r21900 and current.
The difference between 1024² and 2048² is four times the size of the map. I have not yet checked the cpu usage between that neither ... lots of thing to test at the moment ...

I do not quite agree there ... demand should be based on difficulty and not on generated cargo ... some of the demand might be people/mail from other towns just like food, goods and water are produced somewhere else ... still there is a demand ...AppeL wrote: right, i have tried a little bit more and thought of the following solution:
for PASSENGERS and MAIL demands, they should be roughly the same as the "max generated cargo last month" rate (in the town info window under the line with "houses" and "population")
I can not rely on the help of CargoDist as it can be disabled or the distribution can be assymetric in some games.the idea is generally, that all cargo that is produced within your transport system, also has to end up somewhere.. and that should be roughly balanced, so that when a town is generating 1000 passengers per month, then it should also receive 1000 passengers a month.. so if your transport network in a city is really good and reaches out across all houses, then you transport the full max generated cargo, i.e. with the help of cargodist you also receive that same
I agree. Done.also, the cargo generate factor has to be included here.. if you have it on -4 (like me), then obviously all your towns create less cargo, so the demand also needs to go down..
If you want the same values for demand (before modification by other factors) as for generated cargo then just do:Code: Select all
t->max_pass = (t->population >> 3) * _date_daylength_factor; t->max_mail = (t->population >> 4) * _date_daylength_factor;
t->max_pas = t->gen_max_pass * daylenght factor
Adjustment of difficulty should be done in the array in town.h. In town command we only use it as devider/multiplier ... My current version has 6 difficuty options for the moment ... see attachments -> screenshots of easiest and hardest option.Code: Select all
/* reworked difficulty: easy: 75% of normal demand normal: 100% of normal demand (no change) hard: 125% of normal demand */ t->max_pass = t->max_pass * ( -0.25 * _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo] + 1.5); t->max_mail = t->max_mail * ( -0.25 * _difficulty_town_needed_for_growth[_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo] + 1.5);
Yes, I have noticed that the gui is not updated as fast as it should ... still looking for the sweet spot(s) ...basically i failed to understand how the "max generated cargo last month" value in the town info window is calculated or in which variable it is actually saved, so i couldn't repoduce it. i managed to gather the t->max_pass = (t->population >> 3) and the t->max_mail = (t->population >> 4) bit from the UpdateTownGenCargo() function, but this is not the whole picture..
if you start a game and run it on fastforward, the value for "max generated cargo last month" changes randomly even though the population stays constant.
generated max passengers is stored in t->gen_max_pass.
I think something is wrong in your calculations as demand did not go up with the daylenght factor.that bit i have taken from TownGenerateCargo() in the above code also has to do something with the whole thing where the cargo generation factor comes in, but when i have cf=0, even then the results are not really satisfying (see screens)
Also the way you have constructed your code makes it hard to follow ... you calculate and modify by daylenght factor, then you adjust t the town_cargo fator and then later you have modified by the value in the difficult array while adding some more modification ...
Anyway I have reworked the difficulty settings a little in my separate version ... again see screenshots. Note that cargo generation factor and daylenght factor are not taken into account here and I still need to clean up a few things before merging the changes in the patchpack.
Almost done ... this time I will not be promising for three weeks.

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
i have another question:
if i meet all demands, so that my towngrowth is 100%, that means, that my town grows with the speed that is specified in the advanced options right?

Re: Chill's patchpack v12
In my patchpack that I have posted there migt be difference.
In my seperate version it is the same now (when transporting 100%), as I have made this change ... besides many other changes in town cmd.cpp.
Note that I am still testing the attached version and there still might be some odd thinghs in it ...
Anyway it should be easier to see what happens where and how without the rest of the patchpack attached.

Code: Select all
/* Use the normal growth rate values if new buildings have been funded in
* this town and the growth rate is set to none. */
uint growth_multiplier = _settings_game.economy.town_growth_rate != 0 ? _settings_game.economy.town_growth_rate - 1 : 1;
m >>= growth_multiplier;
if (t->larger_town) m /= 2;
t->growth_rate = m / (t->num_houses / 50 + 1);
if (!_settings_game.economy.town_growth_cargo || t->population < _settings_game.economy.town_pop_need_goods) {
if (m <= t->grow_counter) {
t->grow_counter = m;
}
} else {
if (m <= t->grow_counter) {
t->growth_rate = m * ratio;
}
}
Anyway it should be easier to see what happens where and how without the rest of the patchpack attached.
