Can't start game in Win7

Post by ThaDoews »

Hey.

I just got win7 ultimate 64-bit for my laptop. This night i wanted to play TTD, but it won't start for me. I have tried several installations and checked several pages to solve my problem.
Now i am at the same point as this guy, but i don't have that error message:
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=46466

And there it stays. Doing nothing, says nothing. I have deleted "TTDLOADW.OVL", but it neither solves the problem.

I haven't tried the "nightlies" you guys talks about, cuz i don't know what to download? :S

The WIN32 files or the source files? :S

Help? :(

Which error message are you getting?

Make sure that you have compatibility mode set to "Windows XP (SP3)"
Make sure that you have dplay.dll in your folder.
Make sure that win2k is on in your ttdpatch.cfg file.

Determine whether you are using the TTD DOS version or the TTD Windows version.
Use TTDPatch-nightly-r[xxxx]-dos.zip for TTD DOS
Use TTDPatch-nightly-r[xxxx]-win32.zip for TTD Windows.

I'm at the point where that guy is. See the black box on his picture.
Make sure that you have dplay.dll in your folder.
Make sure that win2k is on in your ttdpatch.cfg file.
It seems that i don't have dplay.dll or dplayx.dll either. Where to get those?
I have win2k turned on.

Use TTDPatch-nightly-r[xxxx]-dos.zip for TTD DOS

I've checked some of the "nightlies" and i saw that there is 3(?) different things to download: Source, DOS, WIN32.
I use the WIN32. But there is 3-4 with nearly the same name?! :S

have you searched your computer for dplay.dll and dplayx.dll ? If you have them then go and copy those to game directory where ttdpatchw.exe is
if you do not have then googling it returns link to http://www.dll-files.com page which can help you get what you need
what are you looking at? it's a signature!

dplayx.dll should have come with your Windows 7 installation. Search your computer as suggested by SHADOW-XIII.
Also, make sure you have compatibility mode set to "Windows XP (SP3)"

They are the same as the patch you are currently using but with further enhancements to add to game play. Compare your ttdpatch.cfg from the patch you are currently using to the ttdpatch.cfg for a nightly and the differences are quite apparent.

I don't have any crashlogs... Do i need a file/program so it makes that?

Today i managed to get to the menu. But after 0,5-1 sec it crash.

Can the program really run in win7 64-bit?
I can get other 8-16 bit programs to work.

TTDPatch should generate the crashlog. Are you playing in full screen? If so try playing in windowed mode.

On Windows Vista and 7, you need to set the program compatibility setting to "Windows XP" on "ttdpatchw.exe".
Otherwise it will randomly hang / crash, I don't understand why it happens though. :(
