And I could run it on my Quad-core, 4GB RAM gaming rig, albeit at expense to me for electricity.
You mean running it on you home computer?

I'll reccomend not running it on one's main PC, because whenever you need to reboot (don't pretend it never happens) it becomes massively annoying for you and everyone else.

I haven't had to restart during the day for a while now. Unless I was doing something such as installing/uninstalling programs. Alternatively I could run an SMP server on my server. Though that's only got 1GB RAM and the system partition is precariously low on disk space though... That I could leave on 24/7 though.

Yes, but 1mbps != 1000kb/s (not this argument again...) :P

I did indeed used to host a creative multiplayer server, but sadly the RAM requirements were really too high for me to keep it up. It almost killed my server when another process expanded a bit, and I'm sure it wouldn't be able to cope with infinite maps!

Sweden's biggest morning newspaper, Aftonbladet, featured Minecraft on the front page of their web edition (one of Sweden's most-visited online newspapers) and I was amazed to read it all :D He a rich fellow now, that boy

doesnt matter, you are wrong eitherway

1MB = 1000KB = 1000000B = 8000000b
1MiB = 1024KiB = 1048576B = 8388608b

There is a difference between the capitals (b = bit, B = byte) (m = milli, M = mega) and the infix of i or no i.

1KB means the normal K = Kilo = 1000
1KiB means the binary-wise K = Kibi = 1024

Well, you don't need diamond pickaxe at least... I used diamonds to make armor. You really need it when there are giant squid-like flying creatures throwing fireballs at you.

The biomes are seriously disappointing. I expected the map to be divided into massive regions which would take even several in-game days to cross. What have we got? Random blobs of different terrain that are at best tens of tiles across :(

Notch should really make the generator adjustable.

From what I understand, this is the quick and dirty biomes.
It'll be upgraded in the Beta stage.

Again, that's what I believe he said.

It's exactly what I think, I hope Melfice is right...

Anyway, this game is just excellent :)

I enjoy the updates, I just wish Notch would stramline and optimize the code a bit too.

Plus, when monsters finally get added to SMP it's going to kill my server.

Just bought the game. Couldn't get pass the deal:
- If you buy alpha (by 20th December) you gets free updates for life
- If you buy beta onwards (after 20th Dec) you only get updates for some time

and alpha is cheaper anyway, video tuts convinced me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VWnQHS-ffs
what are you looking at? it's a signature!

Yeah, I was thinking of getting several more accounts. Since the price is going to go up, I could sell them as "alpha uber-accounts" and still undercut the new official price :twisted:
