Class 50's Yeovil - Oxford & Moor Street

Post by Harbon 1 »

I read this in Rail Express, I personally can't wait and hope the company gets going

What are your thoughts?

Yeah, what's this all about?

Most of that stuff that appears in railway magazines never happens anyway.

Seems a bit of a pipedream to me. For a start is the market from Yeovil to Birmingham that big?

Well, thats a pre-election article for starters. A 'not for profit' rail company is an interesting idea for sure but an NFP still has to be able to balance the books at the end of the day. Yeovil would seem like a truly strange place to start/end these services, particularly as the journey time will probably be quite long - wouldn't an intensive Swindon-Oxford-Moor Street service be better?

As for the weird pre metro light railway thingies, there's been talk of that sort of thing for at least 15 years to my knowledge and not a single one has ever come into existence.

Regardless, any Swindon-Oxford train would have to miss Didcot Parkway which is a bit stupid as a semi-fast would fit into Didcot quite well.

Unless they reversed, obv.
