Watertower/bank buildup
I play a tropical game, multiple industries per town enabled
In my efforts to build the perfect train network, I really have no time limit concerning the game date.
Problem with this setup is that serviced tows are slowly building up water towers and banks. Basicely if I play another 1000 years I have feeling that half of the city buildings will be banks or water towers. Adding to this problem I wonder if there is a maximum number of industries per town or the hole map. This would mean that, in time, it will be totally consumed by water towers/banks, wich seem to never "announce imminent closure".
I wonder if there is any possibility to counter-act this effect, since I am planning to play the game for a long time.
tnx,
TD
P.S.
If you are interested in my train network find the multiplayer game plator/OpenTTD H.U.G.E Undertakings Inc.

Re: Watertower/bank buildup
What you describe is a principle problem with the default industries:
Neither water towers, banks nor power plants (did I miss something?) ever close down. The industry behaviour is exposed to newgrfs, though, so it's in the power of newgrfs to change that behaviour (actually something I plan to add to OpenGFX+).
As a work-around on an existing game: Load it in single player and activate the magic bulldozer, delete those industries which are not wanted, de-activate it again, and then re-load the modified savegame on the server again.

Re: Watertower/bank buildup
the only quick solution that i see is enabling "only one industry per town" setting.
Re: Watertower/bank buildup
Fund banks and water towers by yourself, or add them in the scenario editor before hand.tycoondemon wrote:Problem with this setup is that serviced tows are slowly building up water towers and banks. The economy is known to be unbalanced in several ways. To prevent closure, you may be interested in the manual industries, which you can find the URL to in the Gameplay FAQ at the wiki.tycoondemon wrote: Adding to this problem I wonder if there is a maximum number of industries per town or the hole map. You can also try a search in the forums, I am sure these matters have been discussed already.

Oh, that's why coding isn't working todayPikkaBird wrote:It's opposite day in Alberthland.

Re: Watertower/bank buildup
thank you for your suggestions
I have now deleted the double industries with magic buldozing.
I hope this post wil help OpenTTD and others who encounterd this problem
understanding from what I have read, future releases of OpenTTD will fix this issue

I had the same issue, but I fixed it with a new grf.

But now the Watertowers dissappear even when they get a steady flow of water, so when I got the time to take a look at it I will change this.
Probably make that at teh beginning of the game they appear and for the rest of the game you have to build them yourself.

FIRS power station is working solution for that problem, probably you can reuse code.kamikaze_fish wrote:I had the same issue, but I fixed it with a new grf.

I have copied the piece of code of the power station, I think I figured it out. It has a output set, its just a output of zero.
